Hi, my site http://row1.info which has a PR of 6 and ~250 sites linking to it has dropped out of google index. It is still being crawled frequently. Anyone know why this would happen? I have a few 301 redirects and rewrites but they have been there a while: #remove www RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.row1.info$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://row1.info/$1 [R=301,L] #redirect kool keith news RewriteRule ^content/category/1/89/2[/]*$ http://row1.info/kool-keith.html [R=301,L] RewriteRule ^kool-keith.html*$ index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=1&id=89&Itemid=2[L] I was #1 in a few of my targeted areas and now I am nothing It's very, very annoying

Now that is odd. It's possible Google is updating their index which could be the result of this. If it's still not there tomorrow or even the next day, you may want to contact Google and see if they may have accidentally blacklisted the site or if it was removed on purpose.

I looked for the contact link but it looks like they replaced it with an automated form using the Sitemap stuff. If you have a Google sitemap setup (or even a Google account) visit https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/siteoverview to see why it's blocked and request reinclusion into the index.

Yeah I've got a site map. The page does not say anywhere that it's blocked: Home page crawl: Googlebot last successfully accessed your home page on Dec 31, 2006. Index status: No pages from your site are currently included in Google's index. Indexing can take time. You may find it helpful to review our information for webmasters and webmaster guidelines.
I did find the request reinclusion link hidden away but it says only to contact them if your site violates the Google's quality guidelines in the past and is now fixed. I don't believe that this is the case, but I guess it won't hurt to try... thanks Ryan

Rowan - Interesting that you've mentioned this, because I've been knocked out of my high Google search positions for some of my keywords, as well.
I only noticed it in the last couple weeks for me, however.
I figured it was due to Google "reindexing" as Ryan originally noted, because it's happened to me before.
Just curious, did you recently resubmit your Sitemap prior to this happening?

No I haven't updated my sitemap in a while, infact I have just deleted it an am going to make a cleaner one (the old one have 500 links in it). I haven't just lots some of my keywords, a search for: site:row1.info returns no results.

I've been told having the Google sitemap might negatively impact your site at times rather than assist it. Maybe, consider not having the sitemap for awhile and see if you end up back in the index. If you do, my suggestion would be not to put it back on your site.

Great news ... for me! After removing the sitemap, allowing 404 errors and complaining to Google my site is back!
Google last crawled it Dec 31, 2006 and it only appear today (Jan 5 2007).
If will be interesting to look over my stats for the next month and see how being out of Google for a month affected it.

Update: Interestingly when logging in it now says: No pages from your site are currently included in Google's index due to violations of the webmaster guidelines. Please review our webmaster guidelines and modify your site so that it meets those guidelines. Once your site meets our guidelines, you can request reinclusion and we'll evaluate your site.
It did not say that for the month which it was excluded, but it is in Google and is back to #1 on various searches and now says this! Very strange.

I seriously doubt that the sitemap had anything to do with it. I'm using the sitemap and my site is fine. Anyway, congrats on getting your site indexed again.

Rowan, it's possible that page isn't updating very often so the message may be old.

Yes the message seems to be gone now, strange Traffic seems to have at least doubled since being back in the index. For every 10 google referrals I only get 1 or 2 for msn or yahoo.
