Need a vacation
« on: August 05, 2004, 02:57:41 PM »
Too much work... too much web programming... and my brain's fried, so I'm off to Yosemite for some backpacking and much needed relaxation...  See you when I return.

Thanks leighsww and TranzNDance... I did have a wonderful time. :)  We ended up at Cathedral Lakes near Tuolemne Meadows, and the views were absolutely stunning. :thumb:  I took many pictures, which don't do the views justice, but I will put them on-line.  Do you know of any good photo gallery templates?  I'll post the question in another forum... graphics or web design... probably web design.   The only bad thing was... having to come to work this morning  :(  :whip:

Welcome back! :yey: It'll be great to see Yosemite photos, but you're right that they're much better in person.

I use Coppermine Photo Gallery (Fantastico installable (?)) and I really like it. :thumb: Fantastico installs another one about which I haven't heard feedback.

Hmm.. I just read your thread on looking for a photo gallery and not wanting CPG. However, it does meet all your requirements.

Hmm.. okay, I decided to give it a try.  I installed Coppermine.  I went the more expensive route though, and purchased a second database so I would not have to do a manual install.   Looks great so far, but I will probably have questions as I get into it... but of course I know where I can turn for help... good ol' LunarForums  :D

It's nice to have a second database to test things out. You can move things from the old dB to the new one that CPG is using and then you'll have a clear dB if you want to do auto installs in the future. You would just have to edit the files that access the dB to match the new dB login.

Before you do anything, I recommend doing the upgrade. You can go through the list to see if it's worth it, but I think it is. It started out for me that I needed EXIF and the new version had built-in support for it. The thing was I upgraded after making lots of custom changes so it was a huge pain :( , but it was still worth the upgrade. :thumb: However, with no custom changes, the upgrade shouldn't be a problem. I had to add the new code around my custom template. :P

Ahh yes... that is an excellent point regarding the convenience of a second database.  I did notice that I could combine the phpbb and CPG databases into one, and I like the idea of having a free database available for auto installs... very convenient!  Is there any problem combining databases after I've played around for awhile and added records to the CPG database?

Also, can you point me in the right direction for making the upgrade.  Do I have to download an .exe from Coppermine and run it from within my LP directories?  I assume the upgrade you're talking about is from 1.2 to 1.3 right?

Thanks,
Ron
