Anybody played with the new Droid cell phones or HTC HD2? Looking for opinions from real world users not spammers. Looking at upgrading from very basic phone. I see even some of the new pay as you go phones now have web and email while I'm still using tin can and string.  I can see where having email and web access on a phone could be handy for work or a website (particularly one with a store or that sells on Ebay).

Hi Katrina:
A year ago I was using a tin can and string type of cell phone, too.
My husband brought me a used HTC phone running android. We paid $150 to get it fixed (the ribbon that ports data from the screen to the swing out keyboard was a little ripped.) I've been running my guttering business and my life on that phone ever since.

I like the qwerty keyboard and swing out screen, which flips the orientation of the screen. I love the touch screen. My particular phone does not have a jack for me to listen to calls with a headset and that bugs me. My particular phone's camera doesn't take good quality photos, but my phone is old with no flash or zoom. Bright daylight photos come out blue. Indoor evening shots come out black.

I love the integration with gmail, as I get notified by a flashing light and/or a sound when new mail arrives. There are tons of apps in the "Marketplace" and I put Google navigation on my phone; priceless. It says the street names, gives ample warning time before you have to make a turn.

I dropped my phone and the screen cracked. The guy who fixed it the first time refused to fix it again, claiming that this phone is the hardest of all to take apart and put back together. It wasn't worth his time to fix! He suggested I try a newer blackberry because it is more suited to running businesses with.

So, I can still use my phone with the cracked screen. If I were to shop for a new one I'd get a blackberry phone with a real qwerty keyboard because it's kind of a hassle to click a number three times on a screen to find a hidden letter when you're typing.

Thanks Jessica. That helps. I have looked at blackberries but the screens are smaller and I'm looking to use the phone for GPS/geocaching as well. I use Gmail so that certainly sounds great! Anybody else want to chime in?

For the last two years (well, almost 2 years), I've been using the Motorola Q Global.  In August (when my current contract expires) I'll be switching to the DROID by Motorola.

A coworker of mine has one, and I've used his on occasion, and I LOVE IT!  I can't wait to officially get one of my own.  Smile

I do and it is great to manage my sites. I have built custom pages that are easy to use on the phone for managing my work queue, etc..

Also, I built an android app and use lp to host the backend database and resources. You can find the app by searching the market for jwColorLab.

Thanks! Still using the tin can and doing research. Decided to wait for the new Droid to come out this month and see if it is any better.

I've had my Droid2 for two weeks now, and am VERY happy with it.  Especially since I've got the new extended battery for it as well.  I even downloaded the Android SDK so I could post screen captures on my site.

Now if only I could figure out how to disable and/or delete apps I don't plan on using, like Skype and Social Networking.  LOL

If it's a widget, long press on it, then hit delete. If it is a shortcut, long press on it, then drag it down to the trashcan. Be sure to make sure the shortcut turns RED before you take your finger off, or it will pop out of the trashcan and right back onto the screen.

Finally replaced the tin can and string phone. Monthly cost for Droid or Iphone is just too much. Was all ready to go with the great deal at Walmart for Smarttalk phone though limited and no apps when I went to an RV show and got a better deal on a real smartphone from Verizon. Got a Palm Pixi Plus with keypad, unlimited internet on the phone, and 5gig 3G hotspot. Has apps, email, Facebook, Google, etc. at a much better price than Droid service. I can browse my email and website from anywhere which is what I wanted for Internet business. Hotspot will be replacing my aircard thus saving me even more. Has location services (GPS) which helps and free WIFI. Even has Angry Birds app. Very happy.

Thanks for all your replies and help!

I returned mine. It was a bad phone. The screen was lovely but I thought it was sluggish to make use of & most of all not pocket friendly. The thing is kinda chunky.

Now I use Symbian and I can't say that it all I want that's why for me is very interesting to get the real opinion of people using Android. Is it more comfortable and easier for  ordinary users like me? Is it easy to set all the configurations I mean Internet, to install maps and so on. For me my Symbian is too complicated and I usually ask somebody to help me if I need to change something.

I have and in my experience I am fully satisfied with it and am VERY happy with it.   Especially since I have the new extended battery for it too. I even download the Android SDK to publish screenshots on my site.
