Lets just say i have a bunch of bandwidth left over at the end of the month, and maybe for one day or two on a weekend to burn up that bandwidth for the month i want to set up a small game server, would that be allowed here? or no considering its shared hosting. its no big deal either way i was just curious.

What do you mean, exactly? You can use up to your 40 gigs of bandwidth, no matter how/when. (Just make sure you don't completely overload the server and use up all system resources. )

Game server's require a HUGE amount of resources. Whilst we have no problems with people using their account quotas, game servers really need to be dedicated. The other thing is that the installation of the software to create the server in general requires Shell access, something that we don't give accounts - due to the servers being shared. This is of course assuming you ment a game such as Unreal, Half Life, or any other production software... The jury is still out on MUD's - I'm not sure on that side, and an e-mail to info@lunarpages.com would be able to get an answer for that one.

well Hush, since you mentioned one of the games i was going to play, you answered my question, game servers do suck up a lot of resources and this is shared hosting. i wouldnt want to knock any one off line who is making money on there web site just so i could play a game for a few hours, but it is fun EDIT: what is MUD's?

a game server is just that, think of a file server that serves games instead of files, you are serving up unreal tournament for people to connect to you and play, you ever play any online games? then you are connecting to someones game server somewhere in the world.

MUD - Multi User Domain, linux gaming of sorts... Has a cult following and a list of different game servers as long as your arm, but entirely different from the gaming that you're looking at.
There are companies that specialise in leasing Unreal servers, I did have a link, but my Favourites were trashed by a web-site! Arrgh! Any way, it only took a couple of minutes to find on Google.

MUDS ! Yay! ::hugs his muds:: Hmm. I think i'm going to email support to see if i could set up a little mud (it would be SUCH a cheaper alternative to getting an account with the companies that lease spaces for muds..)

Thatguy - there are no waves to be made Every question is valid, and I think it is great that you are looking to make the most of your account. I just thought that if you and your friends want to have an online server, it might be handy to all chip in and hire one... I don't recall the price, but I know a few people have asked, and I was looking into it personally anyways, so as soon as I locate those sites again, I'll post the details ** Last Minute Edit ** Autarkis, let us know what the response is, I'm in half a mind to create a small MUD if we allow it - I know it sounds odd, and I really should know that one.... but I dont'

Medical reasons... Should be getting tests through soon, but till that's sorted I can't carry on with it live. I'm still adding to it when I'm not working, but it was a really time consuming site. Assuming everything goes well it'll be back in February
