in no particular order, i would include:

The Exorcist
The Thing
The Fly
Jacobs Ladder
Dawn of the Dead (original)
Evil Dead
The Ring

and some film about an annoying VW car that goes mad in the head etc ..  Surprised

I will never forgive Chad for exposing me to Hostel.... Gave me nightmares for a week.

I love scary movies. I don't like horror (blood / gore) movies anymore. Sad

LOL yes that was a bloody one very graphic,  you would like An American Haunting then. I also liked the Village. Those two dont have the blood and gore but are scary with complex plots that make you use your brain to figure them out.

How about something old? Like: The Bird With The Crystal Plumage or The Deep Sleep

Another classic that could be the scariest movie of all time:

Wait Until Dark

gore movies are generally rubbish, it's what you don't see that makes a good horror - the implication is far more scary than its visable execution.

most modern horrors seemingly forget this.  the frightful thing isn't what you see but what you would imagine to see..

That's right on Dai, goes back to the known fact that we are more afraid of what we dont know or see than what we are, like if i said, there is something outside that door that will kill you, you are more afraid than if I say there is a snake outside that door !

For anybody that is thinking about watching hostel, I would say don't. I found it to be one of THE worst movies I have ever seen. It was sick, and utterly disgusting. I still wonder why I watched it all, but I thought it was a waste of time.

I would have to say you need to watch....
IT
Friday the 13th
Halloween
The Gingerbread Man
Childs Play
Leprachaun
The Exorcist

I liked 28 days later and wrong turn. Anyway...yeah those are the ones I would recommend. I sat down one summer and literally watched horror movies everyday. Ah, I loved it.

that reminds me of my Mother lending my Granny 'Lace' in the 80's (before she died - Granny, not Mum .. i'm still working on that..) and Gran said 'Lace' was totally filthy.

Mum: did you read it all?
Gran: Oh yes..!
