Hi gamers:fix,

What does go cart racing involve actually?  I get a pic of the old wooden go carts you see in movies like Back to the Future where he rips the top off and makes a skateboard, so I can't say that I really understand what a modern go cart would be.  Do you have a pic of one as well as more information on the sport?

Thanks

They look like little stripped down race cars.  You drive around tires and stuff.  When looking for an automobile-induced adrenaline fix, I prefer to drive on the highway with my eyes closed.

You should do that in town too in pedestrian areas, that'll give you a real adrenaline rush.

Scraping dead things out of your tire treads is a bit of a bummer though.

Back to KART racing... Yeah, I love it too, gamers:fix. Though, since having recently moved to MI, the number of tracks has diminished to virtually none...which is a bummer. I don't think it has the level of bumness that Kata described, though.

I went to AutoZone once with my school class. It was awesome and we got to cruise around in carts for about 6 hours. Good stuff! Very Happy

adjacentidea, sorry to hear there aren't many places for you to enjoy karting. out my way the associations and clubs are embroiled in so much politics that the sport is degrading very quickly and it's not much fun.

well Miraenda, we've come a long way since the days of the wooden go-kart. i used to be pretty ignorant of the technology that went into todays go-kart until i started shopping for one. it's pretty amazing when you find out that alot of them are made from chrome molly metals bent to perfection with aero space grade welding.

you got some pretty hard G forces going around corners (just ask my constantly bruised ribs, kidney and knees) and i'd be lying if i told you how much exactly but it's alot more than race car drivers get due to the design of the karts (small and quick to react with no suspension to speak of).

comparing them to race cars you'll find that go-karts are actually faster than most which surprised me alot and i argued this point with a friend until he proved me wrong with some quick mathamatics. basically he proved that they cover more ground more consistently and quicker. something to do with corner speeds being alot slower for larger vehicles so their overall performance lags on average.  Confused

anyhoo, enough of the boring chitty chatter, check me out in action the very first time i went out. it was filmed on a digital camera so don't expect any awards for quality.

hope this works btw Confused

just go here and save the file cause i'm not sure if it'll work by just clicking on it.

cheers

What kind of engine do you have on your carts? I'm in the process of finishing up building a cart with some friends.. got a 750cc motorcycle engine on it and a straight shart direct drive on it (we got it from someone else) .. so I think we are goign to have to do a LOT of safety work on it first! Smile LOL.. but its pretty impressive - shoots 1ft flames out of both pipes when the engine really gets going...  Applause

umm, that sounds like fun for the suicidally inclined. i'd love to see some pics if you have any. maybe some of those 1 foot flames Applause

mine is a bit more on the safe side with a 100cc clubman engine (Yamaha kt100c) which interestingly started its life as a water pump engine and is still used as one in some asian countries. only has about 18hp with a top speed of around 70mph.

did you say 1 foot flames? Thumbs Up

Were goign to video tape it before we fix the timing etc (the pipes are about 4 ft long as well.. so you can just imagine Smile

6" flames out of the carbs as well ;-) The problem with this thing (10ft long) using two car tires on the rear wheel drive is that I think it would do a complete backflip if you gunned it so we have to put on a wheely bar etc Smile

Problem is you need hearing protection to be near it  Thumbs Up

Yep.. 1 ft flames Smile not to mention all the backfires!
