Here are two of my desktops: for OS X & my Linux hacking distro. My other laptop is back in North America so I can't post my Windows XP desktop. XP through my virtual machines, I just use a solid colour background.

I have the full ubuntu Running vmware with it only uses about 80% of my cpu.. But I have a dual core 2.2 ghz with 2 gb of ram.. It is holding just fine and my cpu temp only goes up to an average of 68c (I montior this via my toolbar where I have one setup).

This is mine, I'm a clean desktop junkie too, all I really use is my rocket dock or launch folder.

Here's my work desktop (usually at 1680x1050, figured I'd save you a bit of scrolling). Pretty simple really. Sometimes I get working and end up having 1/3 of the desktop covered with icons. This week has been pretty *slow*. Some are redundant installs 32-bit vs. 64-bit. I'll post my home one when I get there. Later!

Wow - some cool desktops ya'll have! I didn't know you could do half that stuff! Mine's boring, but organized. On the left I have my basic stuff - Word, IE, etc.; next to that is my computer cleaning stuff; then my games; then my web design stuff in categories, i.e. photo editing stuff & then Dreamweaver, Flash, etc. And the kitty is our newest family member, Paisley!
