Heya,
I was just thinking, but what do you all think about not counting the post counts in this section of the forum? I have seen it at other forums, and think that it might be a good idea. First of all, those members that post and help people with computer or webhosting issues might not be getting the credit deserve. We all know that a lot of us look at post counts and usually like to see our own post count grow. However, in my opinion I don't think it's fair that a big helper might be overlooked because they only have 150 posts here, while someone else might have 500+ just from their general chit chatting.
I guess this has its ups and downs, but overall I think that the posts made in the General Chat forum should not count towards our total post count. This might also result in more people getting involved with the other forum and trying to help out even more with what they already know. Besides that, I still think that discussions will carry on in the General Chat forum.
So, start voting and posting... and maybe we can all kind of agree on this.

Are you saying the posts should not count towards the total post count, or do you not want this to go in effect?

I guess the poll was somewhat confusing. I reworded it... read it now and vote.

I agree with this idea that posts in Chat & Stuff and in the Fun forum should not count toward the post total. I am willing to forego the posts I have here to have accurate numbers reflecting assistance in the main forums.

Yes, I totally agree that the post counts should not count in anything but the serious help forums.

What about Usergroups? This is a feature in this very board software, which could be used (if modified properly) to give the helpful folks due credit for their dilligence. Basically, you would only gain points toward earning a place in a Usergroup if you posted to one of the relevant forums.
Seems like this could be the "happy medium", which makes all parties content.

The posts shouldn't count in the general chat forum. I have a similar rule in my forum which works quite well. Some users were a bit upset when I set this up, but this was over soon. Everybody thinks it's alright now.

Definately in support of posts in the Chat threads not counting... Mainly cause I'd like to know how many posts I really have, not how many are there because of a night with not much to answer and a little chatting...
Perhaps, (if Steph wants a real challange) - there could be a way to give only the posts in chat a number in brackets: ie-
Posts: 694 (37) - that being - 694 posts (+37 more in chat)

In order to not count these posts, does LF need to install a hack or is it part of PHPBB?

It would be a hack. There are several available. I know of one that you run occasionally to resync the post count leaving one or more forums out, and another that doesn't add to postcount at all when configured for a particular forum. The latter does need a database modification however.
