Hi,

Maybe someone around here can answer me this question...

What happened to ZoneLabs?

I recently reinstalled my Windows 2000 and just wanted to download the latest version of ZoneAlarm firewall, but the site seems closed. Well... Internet Explorer opesn the msn.search. They used to have www.zonealarm.com and www.zonelabs.com, but they do not seem to work...

So... network issues? They closed down? Does anyone know what happened?

Thanks!

I don't know if this is relevant, but I heard somewhere that that new virus running around the Internet tries to block an infected system from accessing the websites of the major antivirus companies, in order to make the virus harder to remove from the system. Maybe it is also blocking access to Zonelab's sites, since their software would also block the effectiveness of the virus?

you could always try sygates free firewall
http://www.sygate.com

Personaly, I prefer sygate over zonealarm.

The new virus your talking about is the MyDoom.A virus. If you can't access the sties just google for a mydoom remover run that and then you should be able to. Either that or just doesn't use IE + the local DNS on your PC to access the net Smile

Thanks for all the answers.

I don't think I have the virus in my system. First because I have an updated version of PC-Cillin runing. But we all know that that's not enough Smile
I just don't open any email, and although I receive around 40-250 MyDooms every day, I just drop them to the trash can. And of course, I have the "preview mail" option disabled.

I can access TrendMicro's site, I can access Sygate, I can access Symantec... but I can't access ZoneLabs... maybe is some router that is not working from my location.

Anyway, I will have caution and will run one of those removers, to make sure I am clean.

Thanks again, I will inform Smile

PS: I just installed Kerio firewall... first time I try it. It looks good but I find annoying one thing: Each aplication that tries to run on the system needs my authorization.. and when I say "each" is ALL (I can tell him to remember last option... but anyway..). As an example, an installer can start up to 6 applications....  Confused
Anyway I hope to have runing ZoneLabs soon... I just put this one temporary, and to try it.

Thanks Stephanie. I was just going to post an update about all this, and also tried that link and some other download sites, with no success.

 Confused

FlashGet error in this case:

Quote

Mon Feb 09 19:50:29 2004 Connecting download.zonelabs.com:80
Mon Feb 09 19:50:34 2004 Cannot resolve host name
Mon Feb 09 19:50:34 2004 Error occured!

I don't understand all this. I downloaded a MyDoom remover but it found nothing. I was able to access ZoneLabs from my office at work, and also verified this text:

Quote

Upon execution, the worm creates at least one new file:

%sysdir%\ctfmon.dll
modifies at least one registry key on the infected host:

HKCR\CLSID\{E6FB5E20-DE35-11CF-9C87-00AA005127ED}\InProcServer32 "(Default)" = "%System%\ctfmon.dll"

But there is nothing about that on my system. I have another computer that has no mail installed, and when tried to open ZoneLabs I got the same result. Also did a full system scan a few days ago when I downloaded the last pattern file of PC-Cillin and found nothing. And, as I said, I was unable to access this domain with my fresh installed system. And "fresh" means with all the partitions being formated and being the antivirus the first program to install (as always... firewall and antivirus the first thing I install).

I guess that next step should be call my ISP to see what they say...  Confused

Thanks again, I will update as I get news...  Razz

PS: Oh, and as a note, I also passed "Stinger" the utility from McAfee. And again... nothing.

I would definitly give your ISP a call - seems the DNS between your connection and the 'net is not giving proper info.

My ISP's DNS server is always flucuating.. I just run my own instead though.
