affiliate vs reseller
« on: August 25, 2005, 09:34:06 AM »
I am assuming that these two programs are mutually exclusive. Meaning you can't earn affiliate income on accounts that you are reselling. Is this true?

I'm still debating about the reseller stuff, but I am ready to get a new account and just wanted to be sure before I get everything all set up.

Hey fretnmore,

Resellers can still be affiliates, however they cannot refer a customer using an affiliate ID to their own reseller account and claim a commission.

They can however refer a customer to LP and claim a commission.

Make sense?  :D

I also am a bit confused (a typical state of mind for me) about the difference between the two, and am eager to see the details of the Reseller plan when it comes out.

I think you're better off sticking to the affiliate program, particularly if you can promote LunarPages through a particular affiliate network through which you can earn generous commission. Far less hassle than setting up as a reseller.

it depends what resources your customers will need, for me i have some customers that only wantan e-mail address, so i could park there domains on one account and give them what the need, charge them individually and make way enough off the account to have it be more than an affilliate account, and also saving them money by them not having to sign up for a full account.

That's a good point. If the customers' sites/email accounts can run on autopilot then it can be more lucrative in the long run to earn money as a reseller than accept a one-off lead fee.

However, in my experience, web hosting is extremely complex and there are constant problems. I'd rather stick to affiliate programs, especially the ones that pay residual income.
