Subdomain Clarification Help Please
« on: May 22, 2016, 08:30:26 AM »
Hello out there!  :help:

I'm needing help with the following please:

I created a subdomain in my /public_html/wtest/ folder.

I redirected it to: http://wtest.tropicalorchidsociety.org/index.html

I've even tried http://wtest.tropicalorchidsociety.org and http://wtest.tropicalorchidsociety.org/

Although LunarPages SAYS I've redirected, nothing I do works and I can only see http://tropicalorchidsociety.org !

The catch that I think may be the problem is that the original domain site was created with Wordpress, but the subdomain I am using for testing was just created using the Weebly interface option that LunarPages offers. Additionally, I can't find any info about this in the Wiki Help sections.

I don't know if anyone out there is having similar issues, but I'd driving me nuts! Of course LP is closed during hours I can work on this project.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Are you using cPanel or LPCP for your control panel? It should have a way to create a subdomain (including its root subdirectory). How did you create yours? You can't create a subdirectory /wtest and then just try to redirect from wtest.tos.org -- it won't work.

Phone support may not be available during hours convenient to you, but you can always open a support ticket via email or the help desk.

Hi Mr. Phil and thanks for responding!

"Are you using cPanel or LPCP for your control panel? It should have a way to create a subdomain (including its root subdirectory). How did you create yours?"

I went to the cPanel>Subdomains and created a Subdomain "wtest". I redirected it to "http://wtest.tropicalorchidsociety.org/index.html". I also created a folder in my public_html path called "wtest".

Is there something I'm missing?

You created a subdomain "wtest". OK. That should have been sufficient to be used. How did you redirect it (to where it should have gone to anyway), and why did you redirect it? It should be possible to redirect a subdomain, but it is not required.

I was doing what I could to get the thing going! I just heard from LP and they said THEY have to do it on their end, it's nothing I can do or could've done that all went fine on my end. In the meantime, there's noting in the wiki docs to tell you "once you get to this point, we take over some things in the background and then pass it back to you". Meanwhile I'm over here working to figure this out and why it's not re-directing. #OY  :wall:

"They" may have to fix something that got messed up when you tried to redirect, but normally adding a subdomain is something you do completely from the control panel. I know that (cPanel, at least) control panels can be very delicate little flowers, that are easy to mess up if you try to do something not perfectly routine -- maybe that's what happened to you. You should not have to have manually added any redirection, so who knows what broke.
