[urgent]Personal information revealed
« on: October 11, 2012, 06:07:22 PM »
Today I just found a website named websitelooker basically is a website that shows website information and visitors or something like that. And I want to see how's my website going so I entered my website address. However I was surprised that the site showed my personal information such as telephone number, email address, my recent address and my name. I don't have any personal information included in my website so I just wondering how could my information revealed by others? The email address I used was a really old one that I first time bought a site from Lunarpages. now I changed another one but still, my personal information leaked.
I would like to find out how would this happen and please help to fix this problem.
Thanks

My best guess would be that the site is doing a "whois" query for your domain name, and republishing this public contact information. Do a whois and see if it matches what was shown. It's public information, so there's nothing unethical about what they did. If you don't want this information available, ask your registrar about how to hide this information, such as behind a proxy (Third Party intermediary). Don't file false contact information with your registration -- in many cases that's illegal.
