.htaccess?where is it?

do i have to create my .htaccess file?
or do i have it already but i couldnt manage to find it?

if it  does not exist,how may i creat a htaccess file to protect a spesific folder like www.pcflight.org/protectme  
could you give an example?

Hi Rob,

Typically, an .htaccess file is created in public_html when the account is activated, but if there isn't one, you can create it yourself.  Simply go into CPanel, click on File Manager, then on the public_html folder icon.  If .htaccess is there, you will now see it in the list of files.  If it isn't, click on create file, then type the name .htaccess (you need the . in it) in the box that appears in the upper right hand corner.  Ensure that text is chosen as the type, then click to create it.  It will be empty, but you can do a search here or on Google to see what you might put into it.  Also, various activities you do in CPanel (such as enabling hotlink protection) will automatically create entries in an .htaccess file.
