could anyone please go more in depth on how the scrolling select item box thing in the 2advanced site works? (its on the portfolio and other sections too) its very simple yet cleanly done. i gather from the fact that it loads seperately it is in a different .swf, and that it either loads the entries from another .swf or xml file etc. so..... can anyone dissect how it works? (id like to use something similar for my site)

I'll be better able to answer this when I get home, but the Readers Digest version is:

Flash comes with it's own scroll bar component.  Once you place one of the scroll bar components, you are then able to edit each element of the scroll bar.  This is what I did for  Blooming Rose .  If you flip through the first few page, you'll see that some of the pages have scroll bars that I redid to fit with the style of the page.  When I get home, I'll try to give you a more detailed explanation, or you can just look in the flash help file under scroll bar component.  Unless, of course, this isn't what you are talking about, in which case you should disregard this post.

yea its pretty easy...basically what they did is make a movie clip that has the boxes or individual buttons with the names of the websites or companies on them that is controlled by the arrows which move it up or down.  a mask hides it so it doesnt show while it scrolls from a certain point.  the rest of the stuff like the pics and what not, once you click on one of the buttons loads an external file in to an empty movie clip probably.  only reason i say this is because i tried random urls on their site to see if i was right and i was because if you load one up it shows what i'm talking about....

like the spacex one ----> http://www.2advanced.com/portfolio/spacex.swf

so from this you can tell that in the main portfolio page they have the buttons, sliding menu boxes (minus the actual content) which is loaded behind those boxes that show the pics only after you click on one of the project link buttons.

does this make sense?
