I'm wondering what would be the best bitrate setting for reliable progressive download of flv movies. I know that there are many variables to determine a smooth download, but as far as the upload capacity of a shared server, what is the common guideline? Can I go as high as 1000 kbps and have a smooth download? Should I just experiment or has someone already done this? Thanks

I haven't done this myself, but I would say play with several bitrates till you find the smallest one that is still watchable.  When people come in to watch something, they will not want to wait 30 minutes for it to load - so best to get it to the smallest most watchable format you can.

I did some testing and a bitrate setting of 1000 works fine on the server side.

1000 is a bit high for your poor visitors!
