I am having an incredibly frustrating problem.  I have two websites with Lunar Pages.  I have Flash animations that I use with both.  I used Swish to create them months ago.  I am using Frontpage 2002 to publish.  About a month ago, all Flash animations on both sites just stopped working.  Period.

About two months ago, they all just stopped working.  Period.  There is no error message when viewing the sites...no red Xs, etc.  If I move the mouse over the flash, i can "see" the box around the animation but nothing in the middle.  I'll use paulchinn.com as an example.  There is a very simple animation on the site that comes up before sending you to the main pages.

I did absolutely nothing to these websites before the Flash stopped working.  Nothing.  I have tried removing and republishing the animations.  Nothing is working.  Anyone have an idea?  This is an incredibly frustrating problem and I'm about ready to smash my computer.  lol  Could this be a problem on LunarPage's side?

I just checked out the Web site you gave, and with the flash I am not getting anything to come up either.  Have you tried to re-upload the .swf file and see if it works then?

Hi Paul,

I have just visited your site using firefox and it doesn't work as you suggested. As a test I also checked the site using IE6 and the site loaded up including the flash.

I'm not entirely sure what could be causing this issue but it seems to be firefox related. I'll go and do some research and see if I can find some more info about it...

I'm also wondering if this may actually be something to do with frontpage... I'm not a frontpage expert so that's a bit of a theory at the moment.

I like the music you used in your swf also... the site sounds and looks great.

I hope this helps you along a bit and I will try to dig some info up in the meantime.

Shane

EDIT... I went away and found this...

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Flash_files_don.E2.80.99t_play

If you look towards the bottom of the article this could explain your problem.
Perhaps you would like to try this workaround and let us know if you had some success.

You can see it?  Wow...that is too weird.  I can't see it in IE either.

Thanks for the help...i'll try this fix tonight.

On second thought, I think I may just redo the animations with CoffeeCup.  I just downloaded it all last night.  Either way, I'll post the results.

I don't see the flash on opening in either IExplorer or Firefox. I don't know if the following applies to your site, but I see in the view source your flash object won't start by itself.

I know awhile ago, due to some legal bs microsoft broke the way flash starts - which broke many flash sites, & flash intros similar to yours. What broke was now you have to click on the flash object to start it. Most people don't understand & everything got out of sync.

I had this  same problem on my Walter Mitty site with the Flash Books. A visitor could not start changing the pages without first clicking anywhere on the book, then on the corner to drag the page open. Intuitively, you would just turn the page; the extra click killed the workings.

I found many solutions, but this one works for me:

http://www.bobbyvandersluis.com/ufo/

My books no longer require that first click on the object.

I don't know if this applies to Firefox or not. Perhaps after Microsoft fell, so did Firefox.

I hope this help, or even makes sense.

Edit: Credit is due; it was philvis who pointed this out to me in the page turn thread below.

Actually I used CoffeCup FireStarter last night to create the opening animation and it works fine.  I did it on a subweb of paulchinn.com, not paulchinn.com itself yet.  I'll work on that this week.  But for now...yeah it appears to have only been a problem with Swish.

Actually, I wanted to ask one more thing.  The flash animation that I created (chinnema.paulchinn.com)...it doesn't appear centered in Mozilla but is fine in IE.  Does anyone know a trick for this?  I'm assuming there's just something I need to throw in the code that will make it show up correctly in any browser?

P.S. - This site is still being worked on.  I don't have time to add as much content as I'd like for now.

Hi Paul,

Try changing the following:
Code:
<p align="center"><embed width="616" height="128" src="Chinnema2.swf"></p>

And use:
Code:
<div align="center"><p><embed width="616" height="128" src="Chinnema2.swf"></p></div>

Hope this helps.
