I'm working on a music site for my own material, with the coffeecup software.  I will use the CC Jukebox on the index page, with 4 songs on shuffle.  One of my pet peeves is a site where a song starts playing on the index, then stops when you navigate, and starts all over when you return.

I would like the player to persist through page views - first choice: visible throughout, so you can change the song from a different page; second choice: visible only on the start page, so you can change songs from there - last choice, I guess I can have a noskin player that loops, but I would like a prospective venue owner to be able to pick new songs at will.

I'll appreciate anything, from "oh, I've done that" to "maybe this thread or resource will help."

Since this is my first post, and I've been hosted here only a few weeks, I'd like to especially thank the moderators and community members from whom I've learned so much already.

One option that comes to mind is using frames... personally, I don't like using frames and generally don't recommend them... but in this case it might work for what you want to do... that way the frame with the jukebox would not refresh as they navigate other pages. It might be a challenge to get it to fit right with the rest of the site though in terms of layout... but of course it does bring along with it the other problems that frames bring such as the address bar not accurately reflecting the page being viewed...

I agree, GM, that frames are not desirable - they're always boxy and feel old fashioned.

Is this a useful focusing of my question?  If I have a jukebox on the index page, with active controls, can the music continue during the rest of the navigation, and still be controlled from the index?

I guess this is a "speakers in every room" model.

/keeping my fingers crossed....

the problem as I see it is that the jukebox control is on one page. When the user navigates to another page, the jukebox is "unloaded" along with everything else that was on that page. You could have the jukebox on every page, but then it would appear as a "new" instance when each page was loaded... so, from that perspective, the goal would be to get the jukebox to remain "active" regardless of the page being displayed... and the only way I know to do this, is to put the jukebox in a frame or a different window... might be able to do something with using AJAX to display the page contents so the user never actually leaves the original page, but not sure if that would work the way you need it to with the rest of the site or how complicated it would be to implement well...

I've seen similar questions asked in the past, but I'm not sure if anyone has found a "good" solution...
