Hi I just signed up with LP. My account is setup but I only have the tempory url they setup. I installed Zen Cart and I am trying to get to it by going to: http://mytemporyurl/store/admin/index.php, login.php etc Should this work or do I have to wait till my domain is transfered to access the cart admin? I can get to the storefront at http://mytemporyurl/store/index.php

PHP applications (such as Zen cart) are not guaranteed to work with the temporary URL. Wait until you can access your real domain name and try again. Have you not transferred the domain yet, or are you waiting for the DNS network to update? If you're waiting to do the transfer until you have the site running, talk to support@lunarpages.com about whether they can supply you with a temporary subdomain to use instead of the temporary URL. I don't know for sure if it points to your own account, or if your account is temporarily relocated (be sure to ask).

Why do they assign a tempory url that does not function? What good is that. I understand that my domain name needs to transfer from my old host to my new but that is only my site name that is transfering. I purchased a static IP and it is very disapponting that I can not go to my permanent functioning site through my IP instead of using dns. On top of that it took LP 4 days to even request a transfer of my domain name. I asked these questions in my open ticket with technical support but they ignored it.
Overall my initial impression of LP is very disappointing. That 30 day refund is looking better and better.

Well PHP content is the only thing that should not work with the temporary URL. If your domain name is in the middle of transferring or propagating, I wouldn't worry about this next step - but if you would like to keep your old domain and web site up at the old host while working on your new hosting account here you could ask support@lunarpages.com to assign you a temporary sub-domain. That would give you an address such as briansok.lunarpagestestsite.com (or something to that effect) so you can get things looking good before doing the domain name switchover.

Thanks. I am new at this so not sure what to do. I have a domain name that is being switched over but do not have a web site to transfer. I am building a new store with zen cart and want to start setting it up. There is nothing as far as a site to transfer. I can not get into the store to configure it because PHP is not working.
As for a tempory domain I already installed zen in my domain. So I would have to get support to setup this subdomain (assuming they actually responed to my requests which that have not) reinstall and then somehow transfer it to my actual domain? Is it easy to transfer from one domain to another? How long does it take to get a temporary domain setup? It took 4 days for them to request a transfer of my current domain and I have been waiting 24 hrs for them to respond to my last request. It seems that their support is lacking.

Could you give me your ticket number so I could check into this for you? Might help me get a better picture of your situation too.
Some domain name transfers can take up to a week, depending on who the domain name is being transfered from. Some companies have a harder time giving up registrations than others. As far as the domain name switching goes, it shouldn't take that long, but you would also have to toss in there the domain name propagation time (the time it takes for everbody around the globe to get the update that your domain name here goes to that location there) which is usually 24-48 hours. Hope that helps!

Thanks Mitch. My ticket # is 789021. I would just like to start setting up my storefront with or without my domain name being ready.

Alright looks like since you have clicked the authorization link via the e-mail you got you have started the transfer process. As I mentioned before, this can take up to 7 days depending on the register you are moving from (this is a policy with any and all domain name transfers, both inside and outside of Lunarpages). The company your moving from will have to now approve or deny it within 7 days.

What I don't understand is why I can not have a fully functional site with PHP since I paid for it. I understand that my domain name will take time but I should be able to use my IP address to work on setting up my site. The temporary site is useless to me. Also support here has been very slow. I approved the transfer of domains and it took two days for them to request the transfer on top of the fact that they ignored my questions.

My understanding is that the PHP security software used at LP has some sort of incompatibility with the "temporary URL". I suppose that it could be fixed, but as most sites only use the temporary URL for a very short time, I'd guess that it's not considered a critical problem.
Your IP address should be usable for loading and testing software, but whether it's pointing to the same thing as your domain name (will), or is subject to the same restrictions as the temporary URL, I couldn't tell you.
As for slow support response, make sure that you're not "bumping" your support ticket by responding two or more times before getting a response from the help desk. Doing this knocks your ticket to the very back of the queue, so support may not see your ticket for a long time.

SuPHP does not work with the temporary URL. That is not something that needs to be fixed. You can get around the issue several ways. If you have a dedicated IP rather than the shared server IP, use that. You may request a free temporary subdomain of lunarpages be made your primary domain to test before moving your regular domain here. Email support for that. My personal favorite is to just use the hosts file on my computer to test. See http://www.lunarforums.com/forum/index.php?topic=20444.msg150792#msg150792 on how to do that. It is pretty easy.

Hi Katrina1, OK still does not work. I do have a dedicated IP. If I go to www.myipaddress/store then I can pull up the store front. If I go to www.myipaddress/store/admin it will not load. I also tried changing the hosts file and perhaps I did something wrong. I used nslookup and entered the name of the server. Perhaps i am looking up the wrong thing on nslookup? The email that LP sent me lists my server as for example john. I entered john.com in nslookip and got an IP. Entered that in my hosts file and then went to www.mydomain.com. When I did this the www.lunarpages.com loaded? I then tried doing the same thing using the info from my tempory url. I entered john.restofaddress.com in nslookup, got another IP, added it to hosts and same result. I was sent to the LP front page. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Hi Meilena, I am trying to reply to your private message but get an error message stating I have exceeded my limit of 2 messages per hour. How are we supposed to converse back and forth to resolve this if I am limited to 2 messages per hour. What is the point of that???

I apologize I have just found out there is a limit on pm that was recently placed due to spammers so let's go ahead and post through here. Have you tried using the shared server IP in your allow host file and also using an entry for your Dedicated IP as well? The admin section will be pulling from the Dedicated IP and the certificate that was installed so this could be the reason why. Please advise.
