hehe ... in the words of my dear PC VP, DemonNite, "someone help my ignorant ass" ...

I'm trying to install, configure, and run a CGI script for one of my hobby sites.  It's Gossamer Threads' Links v2.0.  I'm having a bit of trouble getting it up and running.

Anyone available to give me quick-n-dirty pointers, or at least point me in the right direction?    "[Smile]"

There are 3 simple rules to get a cgi script up and running.

First. Make 100% sure that you uploaded your cgi or pl scripts using ascii mode.

Second. Make sure your script has the correct permissions. All scripts have to be chmodded to 755 to work properly.

Third. Be sure all your include files have the correct path to them. You can get a 500 error just because your include files have the wrong path  "[Smile]"

eek ... I think I up'd them using binary.  I'll play around with it more after I get home from work tomorrow night.  I got an hour to screw with it before my LAN party.   "[Smile]"

Just got in from seeing Christopher Titus at the comedy club, it's now 2:30am, and I'm beat.  "[Wink]"

Thanks Maxie!  *smoochies*

Ok, got it running, thanks Max!

... now I got another question.

Is it possible to password-protect my admin dir?  I don't like leaving this thing open.

If so, how do I do that?   "[Smile]"

Also got another question ... do we have access to Sendmail?  or is that something I can find, setup, and install?

Both the things you want are done through CPanel.

Login to your account and you will find a special section for password protecting directories.

Also, on the front page, once you have logged in, the path to sendmail is displayed.

You don't need to configure it, you just need to edit your cgi scripts and put in the path to sendmail where it asks you.

hey .nita.

fancy seeing you here:) just thought i'd say hello....and also offer/suggest maybe you could use asp for your mail question.

the chilisoft asp is quite nice if you are familiar with asp and vb scripts etc.

anyhow, good to see you are still about

best...as always
