I've installed and customized Invision board on my site. All is running well for the most part.
I'm trying set the e-mail feature and wanted to use my Lunarpages mail but when I enter the mail.xxx.xxx (xxx.xxx being my domain) and default port 25, and a valid userid/pw I get rejected. In the example below I tried Localhost and get the same failure as when I use xxx.xxx

SMTP protocol failure!
Host: localhost
Return Code: 550
Return Msg: 550 cannot route to sender address
Invision Power Board Error:
Check your SMTP settings from the admin control panel

There aren't that many settings to make a mistake on. Any help on this?

Is it written in PHP?

Normally you can just use the "mail" function and e-mails will be sent perfectly.

That's what I've done on my board.

If your message board doesn't send e-mails that way, then the problem is probably authentication.

The lunarpages mail servers need passwords to send e-mails, so that people don't abuse them. Look for a space for a username/password in your script for smtp mail.

Hopefully more people will read this and help you, lots of people use Invasion board.

Good luck

Actually I just tried php() mail, with localhost and not auth. The board said it sent the mail but I never recieved it in any external accounts as setup.

Yeah, localhost is the way to go!

It doesn't need authentication then.

Well Stephan thank you.
It would appear that there is a linkage problem
between Lunarpages and MSN Hotmail.

Since I'm basically cheap (yet forked out for premium) I don't like to pay for email and have used hotmail effectivly for 2-3 years.

I also have some work related addresses as well
as the one used for lunarpages.

I found I could email to my Lunarpages account ok. I could email to my work ids ok. But never recieved anything to my hotmail accounts.

I can use what works but don't care much for Outlook E. Since I usually have MSM messenger open I timely see any new mail. I will have to try some experiments but it does seem Hotmail is probably bouncing back LP  email

The worlds full of cliffs... it just depends on which direction we take. Thanks for the replies.

It should work with hotmail.

You can setup your lunarpages mail to forward to hotmail if you like.

Odd, I'd tried that as well one of the first things I did. Then when I couldn't get that to work (got some rejects from HM) I ended up setting up Outlook Depressed. Just wanted to make LP aware in case it wasn't me (oh no never).

It really does sound like an authentication problem.

In the lunarpages control panel, you can automatically configure outlook express.
