I am a VERY newbie. I'm trying to upload my website by using File/Publish Web from FrontPage 2002. I key in my domain in the "publish to" box, key in my account and password, and click publsih. Everything looks like it's working great. It finishes with an error message that says it couldn't find a webserver. I go to my domain, and all my files are there, but not displayed as a web, just individual links to files. I know I'm supposed to publish to the public.html folder, but i don't know how to do that (can't find the folder). If anyone can assist, i'd appreciate it. I prefer not to use FTP because, A) I'm not familiar with it and B) i really don't like the insecurity of it. Anyone getting my password can fool with my site. The file uploader is out of the question, as I have way to many files in my web to do them 20 at a time. Thanks so much in advance for any advice.

Have you enabled the frontpage extensions in CPanel?

You have to enable them for them to work.

If that doesn't work, you could consider using FTP to connect to your website.

Goto bpftp.com and download bulletproof ftp, then connect to yourdomain name, with your normal username and password.

You will be able to upload files that way.

Frontpage extensions should be the first thing to check.

If you are still have problems, as you are in a rush, I'd advise you to call lunarpages. The phone number is on www.lunarpages.com

I'm still on line.  I do have front page extensions enabled.  I tried uploading again, creating a folder at winstonsafaris.com/public.  it produced the same results.

I just don't know how to find the public folder I'm supposed to upload to.

If you don't have an answer as to how to find the correct UNC to upload to, then i'll call them.

Awaiting possible assistance...

Margaret

Dont know if this helps....
but you say you upload to "public"... but by default it is normally... public_html.... and not just public....

Just a try..maybe im all wrong about what your problem is here.

If you check your account with the cpanel you will se a folder called public_html    that is normally where everything in a site goes.

Normally you would just have to upload there and not create a new "public" folder

1st, You don't need to tell frontpage what directory to publist, ie publichtml ... frontpage just need to know the domain name and password.

2nd, I think what you doing is absolutely correct, just that LunarPages are upgrading the contol panel from 5.3 to 6.0 today where publishing using frontpage is not working in the process of upgrading.

I have been advice by the support staff that the upgrade is complete and you should be able to publish as normal now.  "[Smile]"

I use FP2002 also and have never had a problem.

I suspect the problem is that you may be trying to upload to the wrong directory, or have created a directory you don't need.

You do not have to do anything or make any directories to use FP. Just upload it to your domain name - www.mydomain.com - no directories, no nothing. FP knows what to do with it.

"You will be able to upload files that way (ftp)....
Frontpage extensions should be the first thing to check...."

Do NOT use FTP to upload FP2002 files unless you are just doing one or two single pages, and even then I recommend using the single file upload from FP. You can mess up the structure of your site if you try to mix and match.
It is not really a disaster, as you can just reinstall the FP extensions and re-upload the web, but it can be a real hassle.
