Basically what I am looking for is some way to host a publically editable and viewable database where a person can come, put in their name, and then select multiple objects from a pulldown menu (or some sort of menu). Then it gets added the database which is viewable (and possible searchable).

This is pretty new to me so I really have no idea where to even start looking for some sort of structure like this. It's going to be used for World of Warcraft. People from specific servers can goto it, put in their character name and then choose the "rare" items they can craft. This will allow other people who need those items to look at it and see who can make them per server.

May I ask which language you will be using? asp, php, perl? The right way of doing this depends on the language you will be using.

As for the database, you might want to check out http://dev.mysql.com/tech-resources/articles/intro-to-normalization.html. This will give you the basic idea of how the database should be laid out. It doesn't matter which database you are using, the concepts are all the same.
