Hello all,

I have just recently downloaded CS4 for flash files because I have purchased a counter for my site that is in flash. The thing is there are like 3 or 4 lines I must edit to get it to work right for my site, but the problem is I don not know how to open these files to reveal the code so I can modify those lines.
Could anyone please help me. I have tried everything I could think of from using the help option in the program to looking on the web and no luck.

.swf files are created from flash when you publish a .fla file and are not editable. You should be able top open the .fla file in Flash CS4.

Hmmmm.....Interesting. Here is the run down of the directions on installing the counter and he mentions that lines 2 and 4 of the .fla file may need to be edited. That is why I asked the question. If .swf and .fla are not editable then why would he tell someone that those may need to be edited.
And he also mentioned because it was one of the questions I asked him, he said that it was customizable. I could change the font type, change font-color, and add a background image, amongst other cutomizations I can do, but didn't tell me how this was done, so there is a quetion unanswered. Tried to do it in php_counter.html, no luck, and tried looking in php_counter.php, again no luck.
All in all I am not getting any straight answers from him and I can not get a refund unless:
    * the item is malfunctioning or corrupt.
    * item does not match what Item description claims

That's not a big deal any way, I do like it it is working, just wish I could add the font that was provided and also to be able to do a couple of changes that's really all I want to do.
All I need is some one to tell me how I can do it and I can go from there.
I have found other programs and in the help file for installing them were so straight forward I had no problems fixing them or customizing them to my wants with just that. I didn't even need to write their support in anyway to do it. This is the first one that makes things a bit confusing or I am making it more confusing than it really is.

Thank you for downloading: php_counter.zip

Included are:

    * Flash 8 Flash file (php_counter.fla)
    * PHP script (php_counter.php) - Used to transfer the variables to the flash file. Located in the Home folder.
    * Text file (counter.txt) - Used to hold the value of total visitors. Located in the "sessions" folder.
    * Help File (this file)

Font(s) used:

    * Rhonda_7 pixel font (freeware)

    Dynamic PHP Counter

    Overview

    This is a unique PHP counter that counts simultaneous online sessions as well as tracking count of total visitors. Counter is dynamic and updates frequently without refreshing. System requirements include PHP Version 4.1+

    Setup

   1. Extract files from .zip
   2. Place the files php_counter.php and php_counter.swf in the same directory. Refer to Step 4 to make changes to file paths.
   3. Create a new directory called "sessions" and make it writable (this directory will hold your count file and all session files). Make sure the file "counter.txt" is placed in the session folder also.
   4. Lines that may need to be modified:
         1. php_counter.php - Lines 2,3,4
         2. php_counter.fla - Lines 2,4
   5. Publish and Load the movie (.swf) into your projects.

    ----- Important Notes -----

    * Files can be renamed and moved around. If you do, make sure you read through the code throughly and make the appropriate changes to file paths. If your file does not work its a good chance that your file paths are coded incorrectly.
    * If you are using a special configured PHP.INI file: There are functions on lines 7 and 11 (on the php_counter.php file) that can override the parameters on your own PHP.INI file. The functions are session.gc_probability and session.gc_maxlifetime. They both control the garbage collection of sessions and cant interfere with your PHP.INI file if special parameters have already been set.

Enjoy!

Anyway, either way I am not able to open the file to access the code to modify. I opened it with everything that came with CS4 (Bridge, Device Central, Flash and Media) and all I got was the preview of what you would see when you viewed the site, except Bridge it shows a list of files. No code. Also I opened it with CS3 Dreamweaver and I keep getting "Failed to open", also with CS3 Bridge, Media, and Flash. Again No Code.
I don't know, maybe because its the trial version.

Flash would be the app to open the fla file and you would then need to edit the Actionscript. I don't have the trial version so I don't know what you have access to.
