I would like to offer a private region to members of my site that is password protected. I have a subdomain set up now for it.

I did not find anything in the CP offering that.

Is their a perl or cgi: username/password module available?

I'm building in golive 6.0, Mac G3, OS 9.1

You could use the web protect feature. That would do it for you.
