I am super new as you might imagine.  Help
Help
I can't quite figure out the difference between these three software packages on a fundamental level. In other words the difference between a full editor, a content management system, and a blog. I know that they are different but the lack of basic descriptions out there on what the differences are is not making it easy to choose which one for me to start with.  Confused Hypno

I want to get something up now, and be able to learn and grow with my sites. The sites I am creating have a main page and a forum (which I was just going to use SMF for). Please let me know how I can just get started and stop getting confused. I think I am overwhelmed by all of the options and opinions and I am looking for a bottom line that has been quite evasive. Confused

Thx!  Thumbs Up

Out of those three - I would suggest going with Joomla.  An editor like Frontpage is used to create and edit basic HTML pages, once you get beyond that point - Frontpage often gets confused, drives on the wrong side of the street and does other wild and wacky things.  A content management system and a blog are pretty much one in the same.  I would consider a blog to be a very simple content management system - take something like WordPress as an example there.  Joomla would be your basic full CMS - because it offers many more features and is really designed with multiple people in mind.

Hope that helps!

Also, for what it's worth, FrontPage is no longer an active product and Microsoft has discontinued all support and updates for it.  At this point the only reason to use FrontPage is because you are already using it - I wouldn't recommend starting a new project with it.

"I like ____" or "____ is best for me" says absolutely nothing. Three very different pieces of software are (were) up for discussion, and which one would be the best for a particular user depends on what that user wants to do. If all they need to do is cobble together one simple static HTML page, Expression Web/Dreamweaver/other WYSIWYG page editors would be fine. If they are looking to run a blog, Wordpress/Nucleus (? I'm not familiar with it)/other blog or forum software might be best. If they are looking to put together a fairly complex site with many functions, Joomla/Drupal/other CMS might be the best.
