I know that questions like this have been asked before, but the threads are very old, and I thought I would ask a new one rather than resurrect a very old one.  I hope this is the right way to do this.

I have 6 websites on my account (1 main site plus 3 add-on domains and 2 empty add-on domains).  I had them all backed up on my account, but Lunarpages asked me to remove them, calling them "unrelated data storage".  I understand Lunarpages' TOS, now that it was explained to me in a support ticket.  I am not complaining about that - if that is the TOS, I must abide by it, and I have no problem with that.  But I am VERY concerned about having no backups of my sites.  The total space I am using is over 12 gigs, so it is impractical to try to zip it up and send it to my local machine.  I don't even know if I could do that by FTP, since it is so large.  (Sorry - I am really a novice despite having such large, busy sites.  I use Joomla which is a marvel of Webhosting for Dummies  Haha )

Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem?  Can I send such a large amount of data to my local machine without running into timeouts, etc. ?  Can I buy more space on another Lunarpages server just to store backups?  I have opened a support ticket to ask this question, but I also wanted to get some opinions from other Lunarpages users.

Support told me that it really wouldn't help me to have backups in my own account here, if I am worried about Lunarpages servers going down, but my main worry is that one of my sites might be hacked, and I would need to restore one of them because of it.

Thanks for any help and opinions for a clueless noob.

Yes, I would say the better way to back up would be to backup to your personal machine.  Keeping your backup on the same account you are backing up could lead to trouble down the road.  Lets say "horrible thing #5" happens and clears out your hosting account.  It could be your backups would be cleared out too.  Not saying that is going to happen - I'm just a 'bit paranoid at times. Very Happy

Another alternative would be to sign up for the Lunarpages premium restore feature:
