Hello,

I just recently took off password protect from my public_html folder. I unchecked the box in cPanel and also deleted the lines in the .htaccess, but it still asks for the user name and password. If I use the same it will work, but there is no more user or password also because i deleted that in cPanel. Is there something I am missing?

Any Help would be appreciated Thank You!

Paste your complete .htaccess here. [edit out any personal information] You have cleared your cache, history, etc. right?

Actually I deleted everything from my .htaccsess, but this is what was in it.

Code:
AuthUserFile "/home/user/.htpasswds/public_html/domain/passwd"
AuthType Basic
AuthName "Restricted Area Due To Construction!!!!"
require valid-user

Like I said I unchecked the box, deleted all active users and the lock Icon next to public_html is gone, but yet it still asks for it. All the old user names and passwords still work so it is still accessible....Just not to the public as I would like it to be.
And Yes I cleared my cache, cookies from browser also........

Go into cPanel file manager > .htpasswds > public_html and see if the "domain.com" folder is there. If so, see what's in it. You may need to delete something there. You can also try enabling, and disabling again. If all else fails, contact support.

What is the domain in question also? If you don't want to share that's fine, but it would help to test different things.

It worked.....I went into .htpasswrd opened public_html folder then saw a file plus other folders when I opened it, but I just deleted the file and left the folders and now the domain I wanted to un-password protect is now opened to the public.

Thank You Again Matthew.....You have been a great help.....
