I host a forum and I'd like to add a chat room.

I'm kinda new at this and am sure I've made errors. I checked under the data base and it shows five entries.(!)

I'm not sure what to do since I can't add a chat (using the forum db) without deleting one/some.

How may I accomplish adding a chat?

Also, is there a URL where I may view both available chats?

First of all, you should login to the CPanel, and delete the excess database usernames and excess databases.

Are you trying to use a chat add-on which works with your forum?

What forum are you using?

When I open "sql database" I show five entries:

domain_xmb1
domain_xmb2
domain_xmb3
domain_xmb4
domain_xmb5

I'm not sure which to delete!

I would like to install a chat room for the forum (phpbb) with a button and hyperlink on the form index.  Is this possible?

You could use the exsiting DB and add the tables needed for your chat room script. Also, check out the mods for phpbb. I would imagine that they have a chat mod.

Should I have all those xmb entries?

There is a story to this!

Lunarpages used to offer a board called "XBM forum".

There were big security problems discovered, so lunarpages changed to using phpBB.

To maintain compatibility with XBM forum and avoid making everyone change their settings, the database username is still the old one, with "xbm" in the name.

You don't need 5 of them, but I am reluctant to tell you to delete them, because you might delete the one you need.

I am unclear as to whether you said you had 5 usernames, or 5 databases. If you have 5 usernames, it doesn't matter, you can just ignore them.

If you are using the standard plan, you can only have 1 database. You can buy another database for $1 a month. To get it set up, please e-mail support@lunarpages.com

Do you want the usernames and passwords from your database to be used for the chat, or do you want it to be a seperate chat program?

If you want it to be seperate, it would be very easy to do. In fact, there is already a chat program in Cpanel which you can install. (I think it's in the CGI centre section).

The chat would support the forum.  I would have no problem with purchasing another db but if I could use the one supplied it would be better.

Is that possible?

Before we can go any further with this, I need you to tell me which forum you are using.

Are you using phpBB as supplied by lunarpages?

Goto phpbb.com and find a chat addon.

You may need to upgrade/download to a different version of phpbb for it to be compatible.
