I have 2 question actually, hoping someone can help me please.

1. How do I create a MySQL database and give someone access to it without giving them access to cpanel? I'm having someone edit one of my clients site and they need to have access to a database.

2. Under MySQL Database, it shows that I already have one. How do I know what that database is for so I know whether I can go ahead and delete it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

1. In Cpanel, go to Mysql.
Enter the name for the new database in the New database box and click on Create database.
Enter a name in the Username box under Current Users.
Enter a password for it.
Click on Create user.
Now you need to add the user to the database by selecting each in the drop-down lists below that.
Click on Add User to Database.
Below that under Access Hosts, add either that person's IP address or % for anyone in the Host box.
Click on Add Host.

They can now use remote software such as Mysql Admin, Mysql Control Center, etc to connect to the database only. There are several free remote clients available for this.

2. You can see the contents of a database in phpmyadmin. There is a link to it at the bottom of Mysql in Cpanel. You may see one database there which the server has created for testing itself.

Thanks for the quick reply katrina

1. For the Acess Host, I've added "%" instead of their IP since they don't have a static IP address. I've also done all the steps before that. I'm trying it now with SQLyog to connect to the database and I can't seem to connect to it. I get the following error:

"Error No. 2013. Lost connection to MySQL server during query"

What's the port number to use?

2. Under MySQL Account Maintenance, I see the database name with the username but don't see any links at the bottom of the page. Does that mean that the database is a standalone and is not connected to any sites?

Thanks again

1. The port is 3306. Be sure to enter the FULL database and username exactly as you see them in Cpanel. The full names include your cpanel username added to the name you entered.

2. Are you saying you don't see the phpmyadmin link at the bottom under Mysql? Is this a Linux account or a Windows account? You cannot tell if a database is linked to any script in Cpanel.

That worked!!! Thanks

My bad, I do see the link for phpMyAdmin at the bottom. I thought there was suppose to be a link for the database if there was a website for it  Surprised

I can see the database in phpMyAdmin. Is there a way to find out what this database is being used for (whether it's for a specific website that I have)?

No way to tell what a database is used for other than going through its content in phpmyadmin and then checking any urls or paths it provides.
