I have coolmommas.net that we have been using since I started my forum in 2007. I just purchased coolmommas.com

I want to make coolmommas.com the domain name for my forum but also want to have it set up so that if someone goes to coolmommas.net they will be routed to coolmommas.com

Can someone please help me figure out how to do this? I am lost!

You could ask your registrar(s) how to make one domain name an alias for another, such that visitors see the same content, but under the different domain name that they came in on. Sometimes this is called "parking" a domain. Note that you run the risk of search engines seeing duplicate content between the .com and .net pages, and dinging you on the search rankings.

An alternative would be to add coolmommas.com as an "add-on domain", have LP swap the two (primary and add-on), and use URL 301 redirection (.htaccess file) to send visitors to coolmommas.net into coolmommas.com (they would see that they're now in coolmommas.com). The 301 flag would tell search engines and visitors to change their saved bookmarks or indexed pages over to coolmommas.com. I don't think that the search engines will harm your rankings, as they see that coolmommas.net has basically disappeared, but I can't guarantee anything.

Steps I generally follow when doing something like this:

1. Review your forum script and maybe contact the developers.  With some scripts, if you change the name you also need to make changes in files and/or databases for the forum to use the new name.

2. Make sure that coolmommas.com nameservers are set correctly, wait 24 hours after changing nameservers to allow for propagation.

3. Contact Lunarpages to change your "primary domain" from coolmommas.net to coolmommas.com.  At this point you may experience some errors when trying to view your site if your script requires changes.

4. Make any changes that are required from step 1. Errors should clear.

5. Add coolmommas.net as an addon domain and do a permanent redirect using either the options available in cpanel/lpcp or via direct edit of the .htaccess file.

Do you still need help with this?  Or did someone help you outside the forum?  I think what you want can be done fairly simply, though I haven't done it before.  You never know for sure until you try it out, right?

Let me know if you still need help.  Unfortunately I won't be online much this weekend, so it might be later Sunday before I'm back online.  I'd be willing to do it for you.

Hmm...... I went to www.coolmammas.com and www.coolmammas.net to see if you already had this taken care of and it didn't seem like either one was working.  Well let me know if you want some assistance.

I sent an email to your Gmail account (listed in your profile), with the info I'll need to try and get this working for you.

Let me know if you don't receive it.
