I have just created my 1st website, www.worldtrailers.com using Microsoft Home Publishing 2000. I have no problems viewing it but many of my friends say the pages are messed up. Things are overlapping and being squished together. I use Internet Explorer 6.0 to view it, I am not sure what all my friends have but I know at least one has IE 5.5 and she has a problem with it. So I contacted Microsoft and they say they have been able to view it fine with all versions of IE. Also they tell me that it will not be viewable with a netscape browser which I am not happy about. So I don't know what to do. Any ideas, help would be appreciated. P.S. I am really a novice at this so please make it easy for me to understand. Thanks

Microsoft Frontpage makes websites that don't work with other browsers, only Microsoft Internet Explorer.

This is because Microsoft are trying to force everyone to use Internet Explorer.

Your site almost works on my computer, running Internet Explorer 6, but the text on the first page isn't completely visible, and I can't scroll down the page.

I can see all of it, apart from this bit:  "All prices are F.O.B. Florida. You can pick up your new trailer, or arrange for shipping. We may be able to give you some phone numbers for shippers depending on your location."

To make a site that works for everyone, avoid using Microsoft Frontpage. I suggest Macromedia Dreamweaver. You can download a free trial version from www.macromedia.com

Good luck!

BAH!!

 Stephan, read what he said:

"using Microsoft Home Publishing 2000.."

<META content="MMEditor Version 00.01.03.2515,S00.01.03.2530" name=GENERATOR>

That is not Frontpage. It is a text publishing program that just barely makes web pages.

And as far as Frontpage making "sites that only IE can read", that is baloney. There may be some sites out there that are not compatible that were done in Frontpage, but that is NOT the fault of Frontpage. I can find a lot that were done in Wordpad that are just as bad.

We have 7 sites and have done about 5 others. All with FP2002. I have yet to hear of any complaints about browser compatibility.

Some old versions of Netscape did not work, but that was because of a bug in NETSCAPE java, not FP.

There is nothing wrong with Dreamweaver - but it too has had it's problems with Netscape, as had Fusion.

But, regardless of that, I would REALLY suggest getting a "real" website editor - whether it is FP, Dreamweaver, or whatever.
And your images really need to be resized - the page is way too slow to load due to bloated graphics and code.

louise, you have a nice website.  i see it just fine.

you're encountering a problem that has plagued website designers since the dawn of the browser.  it's really a difficult task if you're going to try to design your site to be viewable with all of the major browsers out there.

Thanks everyone for your responses so far but it appears that even folks with IE 6.0 are having problems viewing it(see previous post). So why can some folks with IE view it and not others?

it depends on what type of packages are set up on their computer.  i keep my apps up to date, so i don't expect to have problems viewing sites.

I don't have any problems viewing it, but if you are using a publishing editor you are seeing something different on your local computer than what web browsers see when they go there.
