is there any way to trim down the size of my raw access logs?  I'm at 15mb + and it's beyond the point where those logs are usable.

My current log starts on Oct 30.  I'm wondering if I can trim it down to maybe a month or even 2 weeks at a time.

Thanks

Are you having problems downloading the files?

You should use special software to analyse the log files. Just reading them in notepad or word is very time consuming!

You can search www.download.com or have a look at www.simtel.net or www.tucows.com for log file analysis programs.

No, no problems downloading the access logs.

Yea, but that's what I'm wanting to do.  When my log files were smaller, I could use the grep command to weed out certain parts.  Now the file is too big and I just get "cannot open file xxx".

I've only been using LP for about 3 months.  Less than 6 weeks of log files are at 15MB.  I don't want to be downloading a 85mb log file 5 months from now.  I was hoping there was a way to trim them up and make them smaller.

You can use Metapad (like notepad) to open massive files.

Alternatively, perhaps there is a unix or dos command you could use to trim it down?
