Hello,

I last uploaded our website to Lunarpages back in 2005. I've designed a new one, uploaded the files to the public_html files (I see them in the cPanel file manager) but the new site does not show up in my browser (I have used CRTL+F5 to clear my browser).

I poked around in File Manager, deleted some of the files that were obviously part of the old site, but I'm still not seeing the new website. I only have one index.html file which has a file type of text/html, so that shouldn't be the problem. Now I'm seeing a Parent Directory and list of files when I try to access the site. How do I prioritize the new index.html page?

What should I do to make the new site show up?

Thanks,
Sarah

First of all, you have a security exposure by not turning off indexing (put Options -Indexes in your .htaccess file, or do it from your cPanel or LPCP).

Is "index.html" the exact name of your file (no capitals, no spaces or other stuff)? That's all that will be recognized.

Do you have a "DirectoryIndex" line in your .htaccess file, that might be telling the server to ignore index.html? Normally index.html is the first file name looked for (followed by index.htm, index.php, and home.html).

Thank you so much,

It WAS looking for index.htm, not index.html, so I renamed the homepage and all is well. I used the cPanel Index manager to protect my public_html file, so I hope I'm all good and safe now.

Thank you again for your help,
Sarah
