I'm considering changing hosts and Lunar is at the top of my list with all the features offered.

I just want to make sure that:

1) .htaccess adjustments are allowed and that a paid user can make changes and create custom error pages.

AND

2) what DOESN'T Lunar support?  I may want to use SSI (server side includes) and get as much as possible out of my web site.  If I know ahead of time what Lunar doesn't support for whatever reason, I can research and find out if I really need that.  Otherwise, Lunar seems to have it all.

3) is your uptime really 99.9%?  That sounds awesome.

firstly, yes you have .htaccess adjustments and you can create custom error pages. you don't eve have to do it by hand, there is a custom error page implementor thingy that does it for you, you just make the page. second, check this link out, it tells you what lunarpages supports. the big one that lunar doesn't support is telnetting into the server, but for most people this isn't a big deal.

here's that link

Too, 100% up time does not exist anywhere. I've been to Yahoo, Excite.. etc at times when they have been down. Granted it was short lived, just as you will find it to be here, on the rare occasion that it is.

Sounds good.  Here are some of my responses:

1) 99.9% uptime is great.  I wasn't expecting 100% uptime at all.  That would be ridiculous and unrealistic.  I know downtime is inevitable and necessary, but I just don't want to end up with what I have now.  I've recently been using a free host for one of my sites (digitalrice.com) and the uptime is maybe 75%.    Although what I do have now is free... so what can I really expect??  I'm willing to pay now to be sure I have as close to 100% uptime as possible.  And it seems Lunar delivers.   "[Smile]"   I host my domain through a free host, doteasy.com, and they are very limited in the features they offer for free.  For instance, I can't even modify my .htaccess file.  Once you upgrade, support for CGI, ASP, etc. become way expensive and it's just not worth it.

2) I have already gone through the page with all the supported features.  Some I didn't see were support for Secure FTP (SFTP), Quicktime Streaming (although there is Windows Media support), Python, and I didn't see what versions of PHP are supported (version 4 or 3 or...?).  I did see that SSH will be implemented in the coming months on a special server.  I guess I'd have to send in my ID info to take part in that?

My conclusion is that overall, for the price, Lunar offers a great product and if it lives up to its feature-rich promises, then I think I'll be very happy here.  I've looked at Dreamhost and they are more expensive and offer less space and bandwidth for the buck.

I still have to continue to compare and hear from people before I make a final decision, but I really want Lunar right now.

cosi, why do you need secure ftp, when you can use SecureCRT on an ssh/ssl connection ????
