May's Lunarpages Newsletter is ready for the public!  (Should be coming soon to an inbox near you!)  Got a lot of interesting articles this time around, and a few surprises to look forward to for all the Lunarpages customers and clients.

In this month's issue:

Lots of cool stuff to be read just for you guys and gals!  The staff interview was a lot of fun to be apart of, was an honor to be picked as the person being profiled this month. Smile Be sure to comment here or there and let us know what you think!

The favicon information concise but complete. Thanks!

I noticed that the favicon shows up in Firefox and in Safari, but not in Internet Explorer.  I tried adding the additional code between the <head> tags and clearing my cache.  That didn't work.

Any reason why the favicon won't show up in IE?

What version of IE, and can you give us an example link to test?

Here are two of my sites:
https://best-health-insurance-quote.com
https://medicare-supplement-quotes.com

The favicons work when I use:
Firefox version 2.0.0.14.
Safari version 3.1.1

They don't work when I use:
Internet Explorer version 6.0.2900.2180

Might try it again, after adding this between your <head></head> tags.

Code:
<link rel="icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

Hope that helps!

I put the code in and got the same result.

I'm surprised that no one else is having the problem.

Does it matter if the image is a jpg, gif or a png?

Yes, try making it into an .ico file. Smile

I guess it didn't phrase the question correctly.  I was asking about the file's internal format, not the name.  A gif is still a gif after you change it's name.

My assumption is that the the browsers should accept gif, png and jpg formats after they are renamed to favicon.ico.  Maybe IE just doesn't like me.

Ah, doing it that way you would need to start with a BMP file, and then name it to .ico or use one of the web sites mentioned in the story to create your favicon.

At the time I was researching how to add favicons a few years ago, I remember reading someplace that they could take a long time (months) to show up in IE, and that's exactly what happened to me. It showed up in Firefox immediately, but it was several months before it appeared in IE.

Unless it has changed recently, Favicons don't show in Internet Explorer unless you place the page in your favourites.

I know that was the case with IE6 and it seems to be the case with IE7 on Windows XP

BMP didn't work either.  I downloaded an ico plug-in for PhotoShop.  It makes the favicon show up on my hard drive, but not on IE.  Maybe I just have to wait for IE like cjh said.

I have favicons for:

https://1800insurancect.com
https://best-health-insurance-quote.com
http://cheaper-homeowners-insurance.com
https://lovetherates.com
https://medicare-supplement-quotes.com

All the favicons show up in Firefox and Safari.  None show up in IE.

Another work around is you may try unbookmarking them, and then putting them back in your bookmarks in IE.  All of them worked in IE7 for me, except for lovetherates.com.  Hope that helps some.
