This would actually be an addon domain. So you'd need to remove the domain from the Parked Domains section and add it as an addon domain. Then you can specify which folder (subdomain) you'd like the domain to resolve to.

I would not want to have it as an add-on domain -- I do not want any space for it (or a 'real' server for it) I just want to have that virtual domain pointing to a subdomain.

For example, say my main domain is starwars.com, where I have my e-mail, space, etc. I buy a new domain called mystarwarsblog.com, and I just want it pointed to blog.starwars.com, where it is stored.

That's basically what I am trying to do, but I am not able to do it through the Cpanel (the Cpanel will already include starwars.com/ and let me enter a folder, and then redirect it anywhere I want, but it will not let me select mystarwarsblog.com as the origin of the redirection.  When I purchased it through Lunarpages I was told that I might have to 'do a mod_rewrite and then have it redirected', but I don't know how that would work, or if that would be the solution. I thought it would be pretty simple, but it does not look like it is...

I appreciate any help... thanks.

If the content of mystarwarsblog.com has different content starwars.com, this is an addon domain.

Parked domains only resolved to the PRIMARY domain name. Parked domains are an additional domain you can use to load the content from your primary site. IE: If you wanted people to find your site using starwars.com, starwarsfans.com, starwarswhatever.com. If you also had a blog site for starwars, and wanted it to have it's own domain, it's an addon domain.

it's not exactly a different content, it would just point to a subdomain of starwars.com.

Basically, what I am asking is: I got a new domain (just the domain name) and I do not want any space for it. I just want it pointing somewhere else.

For example, I purchased a domain with my previous registrar. I just payed for the $15 for the domain registration and they redirected it to another server (with somebody else) where my page was stored. How would I do that? Can I do it through the Cpanel?

Thanks! Smile

Is the subdomain you want to point it to hosted somewhere else? Not on our servers?

It is on Lunarpages (just a subdomain of my main domain), but what I want to do is basically the same as if it was somewhere else. I just have a new domain name without space, and I want to point it somewhere, but I do not know how. Am I able to do this myself through Cpanel, or would I have to contact Lunarpages so that they can do it for me?

Thanks! Smile

Ok, if it's going to point to a subdomain off your main domain hosted at Lunarpages, that is an Addon Domain. Addon domains are *subdomains* behind scenes. You add this in cPanel under the Addon Domains section. You get 1 free addon domain with a Basic plan.

I already am using an add-on domain, so I would not be able to add this one. Well, I understand that where I point it should not make any difference -- whether it is within lunarpages or out. I am actually going to have a total of three new domain names purchased through Lunarpages which I will want pointed to different subdomains -- I do not see why there would be a limit to how many domains I can have pointing to my main domain (not sharing space, just pointing at them). If I purchase a new domain name, I should be able to have it pointing anywhere without any extra charge, whether it is within Lunarpages or not.

That is the way I have always done it through other registrars. I had two domain names purchased a while ago with a different registrar, and I just told them where to point it. That's all I am interested in doing in this case.

By the way -- I was told via e-mail that this was fine, I was just told I could do it myself with a MOD_REWRITE. I am just not familiar with what this is, that is why I was posting. Smile

Hello,
I read your post and because am interested in Add-on domains.

I added an add-on domain on account (Basic plan).
When I added I received this message:

Addon Domain Additions
Bind reloading on nasa using rndc zone: [main_domain.net] Error reloading bind on nasa: rndc: connect failed: connection refused Bind reloading on ns1 using rndc zone: [main_domain.net] The subdomain, addOnDomain. main_domain.net has been added.

Using nameservers with the following IPs: ip1 ,ip2

Notification => alerts@lunarpages.com via EMAIL [level => 3] Bind reconfiguring on nasa using rndc Error reconfiguring bind on nasa: rndc: connect failed: connection refused Bind reconfiguring on ns1 using rndc
Created DNS entry for addOnDomain.com

Setup Mail forward addOnDomain.com -> addOnDomain.main_domain.net
Setup addOnDomain.com OK

Adding httpd.conf entry for addOnDomain.com to point to addOnDomain.main_domain.net
Syncing Ftp Databases....Done

addOnDomain.com has been setup. It can be accessed via the subdomain addOnDomain.main_domain.net. FTP access has been granted with the user name account_name@main_domain.net and the password password.

I made the configuration with LP nameservers to my registrar.

EMail  works fine, I could make an address new@addOnDomain.com

Questions:
1. I cannot connect at the ftp.addOnDomain.com
When I create the add-on Domain, an ftp.addOnDomain.com is created?
If so, what username and password I must use?

2. With the account_name@main_domain.net can I connect to CPanel? (I tried and did not work).

Thanks for help

Hello:
The FTP address would be just addondomain.com and you would use the following to login:
username: account_name@main_domain.net
password: password

To login to the Cpanel, you would have to use your account username. The Add-on domain name doesn't get its own username or control panel.

Thank you for the quick answer RyanJ. Seems that I didn’t wait long enough that the nameservers changing propagate trough the web. Now the ftp.addOnDomain.com works fine (after 48 hours).

But I have a new problem. www.addOnDomain.com now loads the first page from my mainDomain.com. Why?
(main domain = www.abrise.com
addOnDomain = www.accenttime.com different from what I have in http://www.abrise.com/accenttime/
)

How can I fixed that?

Thank you,

Luiza
