Park a domain on an add-on
«
on:
March 10, 2008, 10:55:18 PM »
Can anyone provide me with assistance on how to park a domain on an add-on domain?
For example-
My main site is
www.111.com
I have
www.222.com
as an add on, which also redirects to
www.111.com
I want to add
www.333.com
and
www.444.com
as parked domains on
www.222.com
I am unable to do this because when I log into cpanel it is under the domain
www.111.com
, and therefore when I try to park a domain it parks in on
www.111.com
instead of
www.222.com
Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hehe, this sounds like a bit of a math problem. One question, if 222.com is an addon domain why does it redirect to 111.com?

Hi Mitch,
Isn't this the best way to do it for SEO purposes? In other words, when someone types in
www.222.com
I want it to resolve to
www.111.com
. I don't want to just park
www.222.com
at
www.111.com
because I want the URL to actually resolve to
www.111.com
when someone types in
www.222.com
.

As far as SEO goes I could probably search and find 10 rules that say it is good to do that and 10 they say it is bad. Ok, well if they are all still going to the same web site, just with different domains - why not setup 333.com and 444.com up as you did 222.com?

You're right, there are definitely always conflicting opinions when it comes to SEO.
As you suggest, I suppose I
could
setup 333.com and 444.com up as I did 222.com. This will be my backup plan.
But for my own knowledge/understanding
is
it possible to add 333.com and 444.com as parked domains on an add-on?

Yep, you could park them, but since 222.com is redirecting to 111.com all of them would be going to 111.com. Once the parking was done and they went to 222.com, then your redirect there tells 222.com to go to 111.com. Hope that makes sense.

Yes, this is exactly how I want it to work, but
how
do I actually park 333.com and 444.com on
222.com
?
When I am in cPanel, I am in my primary domain (111.com), and therefore when I try to park they are becoming parked on 111.com and not 222.com.

I would say you would be better off with 333.com and 444.com doing them like you have done with 222.com to get them to 111.com. The way cPanel handles things by default is parking domains to the primary address only on the account. So unless you did some wacky .htaccess redirecting, then you would be better off with the previously mentioned better off way of doing it.
Also you should consider the big picture and long term of things. Search engines will remove you if they think you are trying to scam them, especially with duplicate content. Not saying that is what you are exactly doing here, but should be something to be aware of. As far as SEO goes you would be better off sticking with the basic tips. Have good content for your specific niche and quality is better than quantity.
