Hi folks. I've had a rather static, small site up for 18 mo. with the entropy search I got from lunarpages working nicely. I just changed several webpages, so thought I should do as recommended and rebuild the search engine. Well, when I click Rebuild, I get a page that says "Building search engine index." It says Scanning Web Area, followed by about 30 + signs, then it says Loading Files: [1% Complete]. It never changes from this screen ... even after 20 minutes.

Now when I use the Search function on my site I get 'no results' no matter what I type in. I have a very small site... all xhtml files. I've done this 8 times. I've even trashed my Robots file because I read somewhere that this could be a problem. No change.

This is very frustrating because now the Search doesn't work and I cannot find any advice on what to do next. I'd rather not mess with another script because this one met my needs just fine and I'm not very technical (other than xhtml/css).  PLEASE ADVISE!  I am so grateful for any and all help.

Did you change the site's page filetypes or anything? As I recall, the last time I tried Entropy, it would index only a few specific filetypes (such as .html) and not many others. I was massively unimpressed by the results on my PHP-based site. If you didn't change things that much, perhaps the original index was wiped out and the indexer got hung up trying to rebuild it, leaving you with an unusable empty index. In the case, the moral of the story is to back up your old index before trying to rebuild it. If you have Premium Restore Service and your last good index was no more than 2 days ago, you might talk to support about whether they could restore the index. They might want to know the name and location of the affected files... otherwise, maybe someone familiar with Entropy could step up and tell how to use it correctly? Have you searched Lunarforums on "entropy"?

Hello. Thank you, MrPhill for your reply. I did not change any filenames or types - mine are shtml. I read many posts on this topic. I did find the index files and they were empty. I don't know why it wouldn't rebuild for me, but one thing I found out that I didn't like was that it builds the search index on every single html or txt file on your website. Not good. I have a couple subdomains that I don't want mixed up with my main site. Never tested keywords from the subdomains - egads! So that made me decide that I needed another search facility.

I don't understand php and I found the other free recommended search facilities too difficult to implement for me. So I implemented the Google AJAX API search. It took some time because I wanted to customize it via CSS, etc. I don't like the fact that it gives you the results on the same page at the bottom (couldn't get the target blank thingie to work ... the code made the search box disappear altogether). But I'm satisfied enuf with it for now. At least when somebody searches they won't get links to subdomains and other pages that aren't relevant to my website! That news was a deal breaker.

Thanks again.
