Hi,

How come CPanel keeps timing out all the time? I am not sure if this is a CPanel problem, or it is related to the https setup on your servers. But, there are lots of times where I try to connect to the following URLs and it keeps waiting there forever?Huh

I tried IE and Mozilla FireFox, and at least 10% of the time I try to connect, I am getting timeouts, ie I type in the url, and nothing happens and it keeps waiting, or it brings me the login window, I enter my info, hit OK and it keeps waiting there for ever. And, it goes down for a few minutes, then comes back up all this time.

Why is the CPanel and/or https soo unstable? Any idea, anyone?

These are the URLs I am trying to connect:

https://www.mydomain.com:2096/
https://secure.banic.lunarpages.com/cpanel

Thanks!!!

I have no problem with cPanel instability, so I don't think the problem is cPanel or https. Are you using a firewall?

Try these URLs.

https://banic.lunarpages.com:2083/

I've not had any of the issues you are describing thus far.  Have you cleared your DNS cache as this could be causing the issue:

In Windows - Click Start, then Run, type IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS click OK.
(If you want to see the process type CMD or Command at the run screen and click OK, then type IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS)

If it clears, then use your browser to clear your temporary internet files (cache) and restart your computer.

If you are running a firewall, check that it isn't blocking the ports used for C-Panel (2096/2083) as this caan cause the time outs.  If you are not sure, tell us which firewall you are using and we can try to find out.

Also what type of connection are you on (Dial-Up, DSL, Cable etc)

These urls are not accurate at all, can you tell me where you got them from for Cpanel login:

https://www.mydomain.com:2096/
https://secure.banic.lunarpages.com/cpanel

The urls to use would be:

https://mydomain.com:2083/
https://banic.lunarpages.com:2083/

the /cpanel login is non-secure via port 2082. I'm amazed if either of those you provided above would even work to get into Cpanel. They darn well shouldn't anyway. 2096 is the webmail secure port for https://mydomain.com:2096/ (that would go to webmail only not Cpanel), so you wouldn't even see Cpanel but webmail when you use it.

The first one:
https://www.mydomain.com:2096/

brings a limited Control Panel which only has Horde, SquirrelMail and logout links in it. Then it forwards me to the Horde login screen (Have to provide login information twice, though Horde user/pass are already filled in).

As for the other url:

https://secure.banic.lunarpages.com/cpanel

I am not sure where I got it, don't remember it. But, it has been working from time to time... Also, I am behind the proxy, but the fact that I can login from time to time kind of shows that this should not be a firewall issue, right/

I will try the new URLs you have given and post again if I face any problems.

Thanks for all the help!

Just to add to the confusion, I've been using this bookmark at work, where I am behind a firewall that only allows me to use port 80:

https://login.imantra.lunarpages.com/frontend/x/index.html

(You'll need to replace "imantra" with your own server name.)

Works everytime. I get the cert prompt, then the name/password prompt.

Actually, I have been checking the server status from CPanel for banic, and it looks like: "cpsrvd" keeps failing, then gets back up, then fails again, etc. etc.

Can this process be the one causing the problems that I mentioned regarding stability? Are you guys monitoring this?

Any idea?

First of all, as I noted, https://www.mydomain.com:2096/ is webmail not cpanel. This is why you are getting only Horde and SquirrelMail as it isn't the Cpanel link at all but webmail.

Next, please do not use https://login.imantra.lunarpages.com/frontend/x/index.html
as this hard codes the Cpanel theme in the url and, if you change theme, this won't work (not everyone uses X theme). The correct url for imantra would be https://login.imantra.lunarpages.com as that is the actual port 80 url.

Finally, the service status indicators are not reliable. There is a post by Jay about this issue at the following location:

http://www.lunarforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12381

The failure to get into Cpanel using the non-valid link that has secure.server.lunarpages.com/cpanel would be due to it not being a link that you should use. The failure to get into webmail using the link you provided, I am not certain about. It is possible you are behind a firewall blocking port 2096 for webmail. You could use http://webmail.server.lunarpages.com/ as the replacement url and replace server with your server. If you can connect more reliably there, then it is a firewall blocking the other port.

Thanks

So, it looks like all of the following URLS go to the CPanel:

https://mydomain.com:2083/
https://banic.lunarpages.com:2083/
https://login.banic.lunarpages.com/
https://secure.banic.lunarpages.com/cpanel
https://login.banic.lunarpages.com/frontend/x/index.html

But, you are advising us not to use the last 2? So, can you simply tell which ones are the official URLs?

As for the firewall, don't you think I should not be able to login at all if there was a block on firewal??? But, the case is I can login sometimes, and can't some other times... ANd, failure rate is around %10. But again, I was using the 4th link till today. And I started using the 1st and 2nd and have not seen any problems yet...

Thanks for all the help so far.

Since I started using these URLS (I am using https://domain.com:2083 to be more precise), I have had no problems at all!!!
