Hello, The shared Krypton server has recently been updated to MySql 5 which has, for lack of better word, destroyed my website. I am using an osCommerce based system that ran great on the previous MySql and PHP versions.
My question is, is it possible to setup a dedicated server transferring all my current files/database/etc. from Krypton to the dedicated server but instead using the previous versions of MySql and PHP? In other words, I want everything the way it was before the Krypton upgrade, but on a dedicated server. Is this possible? If so, can it remain this way indefinitely?
Thank you for your time.
Chad

What went wrong between mysql4 and mysql5 upgrades? From their news it appears they are dropping support for php4: http://www.oscommerce.com/about/news,128I would assume that they would of done the same for mysql 4.. Have you asked support if they have any mysql4 servers they will be keeping up for legacy, for the very few scripts that still need it. Edit, Found this: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,3727/

Hi,
Additionally to your plans on upgrade to the dedicated server with required version of MySQL and what JeremyD advised, I would recommend consider updating your site to support MySQL 5 as the Active Lifecycle of MySQL 4 has already ended. It would too strange if oscommerce does not support MySQL 5 yet.

Is the issue you are referring to 1054 - Unknown column 'p.products_id' in 'on clause' ? This is an issue that most commonly occurs when using an older version of Oscommerce, which is not compatible with the newer versions of mysql. You can find a fix for this at http://forums.oscommerce.com/index.php?showtopic=230304 starting on post #6

Hello Folks, Thank you for all of your suggestions. Before starting this thread, I had tried every update, bug fix, solution, etc. to try and get this issue resolved (probably should have stated that, sorry). None of them solved my issues. I have been experiencing all sorts of problems. One of which my database will not backup or restore any longer.
I have found that the problem lies in the template I am using. The vendor who sold me the template apparently sold me a template that is not compatible with PHP5/MySQL 5 . I contacted the vendor and they will not help me sort this out in any way. You would think vendors would keep their products up to date. My mistake for not checking; however, being new to osCommerce, PHP, MySQL, and a little naive, it would have been nice to know up front that this template was only compatible with versions 4 of php/mysql. This was not advertised when purchasing this template. I assumed it would be the latest version considering it was advertised as a CRE Loaded v6.2 patch 11 template (which is supposed to be compatible with the versions 5). It appears the CRE loaded part of the package is correct; however, the template files are not. A nightmare to say the least.
So basically after spending several months getting this site built and ready to launch, I am now screwed pretty much.
Do you guys see anything wrong with setting up a dedicated server on the older versions of PHP/MySQL just to get this site up and running while I build another duplicate site that is compatible with the newer versions to launch at a later date? Any issues you may forsee by going this route?
Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Chad

It would be your server so you could do this. I don't mean to take business away from Lunarpages, but why shell out an extra 90 some odd dollars at least each month just to get mysql4/php4 when after research and other things you could find ways to upgrade at least parts of the templates. If you stay behind in versions as well and something goes wrong, then you are very well just dug a hole with nobody to give you a hand out.

Just to add to the Jeremy's suggestions. You would consider upgrading to the Linux VPS plan instead of the dedicated one. VPS servers get MySQL 4 and PHP4 installed by default and this solution will cost less than the dedicated plan.
