Hello Comrades,

Can we really block "reverse ip look-up" services.

I want to secure my privacy from harvesters and other miners / snoopers.

Is it possible?

Thanks,
George

Hi George,

May I know why do you want to disable the reverse IP lookups ? and how does the reverse ip lookup being enabled adversely affect your privacy ?

Actually reverse IP lookups are a must factor for various reasons.. For one, if you don't have reverse DNS enabled or if PTR doesn't match up, most mail servers considers the mail originating from your server as spam and simply rejects the mail.

It is possible, but we have to disable the reverse lookups at either the ISP  level or at nameserver and AFAIK 99.9% of IPs at LP have PTR records and we strongly recommend it.

Hello Abhilash,

For "reverse marketing" anti-espionage reasons I wanted them blocked, but if email gets rejected by other servers, I would never want that.

Thanks for enlightening me Abhilash - of course I don't want them blocked.
