I'm trying to get something working on my dedicated VPS: JungleDisk. This will let me access some files I have stored on my Amazon S3 account directly.

In order for this to run it needs something called Fuse. I can't work out if this is already running! I'm ploughing through help files and forums but not really getting anywhere.

Is this something that Yum can install for me or is it already running?

As ever, any help is appreciated!

Hello Weaintsayin,

To have fuse installed, first make sure you have the rpmforge repository installed. If not, refer to http://wiki.centos.org/Repositories. Once rpmforge repository is added, install fuse, dkms and dkms-fuse packages using yum (dkms and dkms-fuse install the fuse kernel module).

I believe I followed the instructions at Centos correctly (for centos 4) but when I try to install dkms-fuse or just fuse I get:

I'm a bit cautious about doing anything further! Am I going in the right direction?

It looks like something went wrong as you mentioned your server is Centos 4 but the package being installed is for EL5 which is Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 which is compatible with version 5 of Centos and not 4. You may try to install fuse for el4 from http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/packages/fuse/ manually.

Oh dear... I just worked out my mistake. I downloaded the Centos 5 rpm not the Centos 4 one. The links are on the same page, in sections that look identical so I must have scrolled that window.

Do I need to reverse something (is there some way to do this?) before I just install the Centos 4 one on top?

I'm rather worried about what issuing the following might do:

  -e, --erase=<package>+           erase (uninstall) package

Sometimes the all in one installers can be a bit dangerous when idiots are let loose on them!

So can anyone help me make head or tail of this.....

I tried to install the correct package for Centos 4.

It told me there were conflicts with files installed for Centos 5 (my earlier mistake)

So I tried to erase the Centos 5 package and it told me it wasn't there.

Help!!!

Please try to execute:

rpm -e rpmforge-release-0.3.6-1.el5.rf

and, if it does not produce any errors, setup rpmforge-release-0.3.6-1.el4.rf.i386.rpm
