Is Joomla already pre-installed on DedServer ?

If yes: how do I find out the current version number ?

If no: how can I do this ? Over cPanel or WSH ?

Is it urgently recommended to do this over cPanel or is installation from command line also possible without problems?

Hi Peter,

Joomla does not get installed by default with dedicated server. You will be able to easily install it in a few clicks, if you purchase cPanel and Fantastico. Otherwise, you will need to setup Joomla as per installation manual. Of course, cPanel will make account operations such as db creation easier.

Ok, we already have cPanel. Do we need Fantastico in addition or alternatively ?

Furthermore: Is there a quick installation guide on how to install Joomla under cPanel ?
I already installed Jommla on non-cPanel resp. WinXP systems.
So the Joomla installation itself is familar to me.
I just need some introduction under cPanel.

Fantastico is a cPanel addon that simplifies installation of many popular web scripts. It can be added to cPanel for additional licensing fee of $2.50/month plus a $10 setup fee.

I believe there should be many installation guides for Joomla with cPanel over the Internet. After quick search, I liked this flash tutorial:

Ok, the tutorial indicates that I have to upload the Joomla package from my local computer to the DedServer. Is this true ? In other words there is no special link somewhere in cPanel which
let me automatically retrieve Joomla v1.0.13 from a special Lunarpages software server directly
to our DedServer ?

I can treat our DedServer server for Joomla installation as if it would be a "normal" Linux server in our own LAN ?

No Lunarpages specific handling required?

Could you just quick confirm this

Thank you
Peter

Ps: Can I use the newest Joomla version 1.5 RC2 as well or only the 1.0.13 version ?

Hi,

You need to have fantastico to get a link through which you just click and get Joomla installed. You can download  archive with Joomla to the server directly via shell using command line utilities such as wget or curl. And that's correct you can treat your server as a normal server in your LAN that just have cPanel installed to easy management.

It is up to you which version of Joomla to use. I wouldn't use RC2 (RC states for release candidate) in a production environment until it Joomla 1.5 gets officially released.
