I just signed up my 9th account (all Shuttle plans) and see that the per month price is now evening out - comparing them to the dedicated plans.

I plan to add more sites.

What are the pros and cons to going dedicated?

Thanks!!

RickJ,

I can't give you advice on the dedicated plan, but I learned you can use the new Reseller program to save a little money. I had asked about multiple sites in this thread:
http://www.lunarforums.com/forum/index.php?topic=29385.0

Even thought it's called a "Reseller" program, I guess there is no issue with, in a sense, selling the plans to yourself. One difference is you don't get the free add-on domain under a Reseller Shuttle plan like you do under the normal Shuttle plan. Another difference is you only get the "Free Domain for Life" on the first 3 domains. See:
http://www.lunarforums.com/forum/index.php?topic=28858.0

Here is the pricing information:

Rates For your 1st - 3rd Purchased Accounts (at regular Lunarpages rate)
1 Year pre paid account $7.95/mo NO SET UP FEE
6 month pre paid account $8.95/mo with a $15.00 set up
3 month pre paid accounts $9.95/mo with a $15.00 set up

Rates For your 4th - 10th Purchased Accounts
1 Year pre paid account $6.00/mo NO SET UP FEE
6 month pre paid account $7.00/mo with a $15.00 set up
3 month pre paid accounts $8.00/mo with a $15.00 set up

Rates for your 11th+ Purchased Accounts
1 Year pre paid account $5.00/mo NO SET UP FEE
6 month pre paid account $6.00/mo with a $15.00 set up
3 month pre paid accounts $7.00/mo with a $15.00 set up

I've gone back and forth over doing the Reseller thing.  Right now I'm doing the affliiate thing: setting up client accounts in their name with their cc info - so getting $50 per client.

I guess I need to look closely at the 3 options...

One thing about the Dedicated plan, for me anyway, is the seemingly long list of add-on costs. It seems hard to add up how much things would really cost each month.

Surely that's a good thing - you only pay for the things you actually want. You can run a server quite happily without any of the addons.

Like RickJ, I'd be curious to know from some on the Dedicated plan, what their opinion is on when might be a good time to switch to a Dedicated plan. I would quess either if you have quite a few domains, need a lot of bandwidth, or want full control over the software on the server.

Hey RickJ, did you ever go with the dedicated plan?  That sounds like an option for me.  That way, I can just set up new domains on my own server, and charge the client myself for the hosting and maintenance.

If you can't design an attractive, standards-compliant website using nothing more than Notepad and a decent graphics editor, you need to rethink your approach to web design.

Yeah, RickJ. I want to know too. Did you ever go for the dedicated plan? I'm seriously considering go that way, and it would be great to get some more insights to someone that's already made the transition.
