On our DedServer we host 2 domains.

In the directory

\home\cpbackuptmp\cpbackup\daily

I found an automatic created (?) backup of (only) one of our domains.

Where can I specify the backup frequency ?

Where can I specify the number of backup generations?

Why is only one domain buckuped and not the other ?

the dir name "cpbackuptmp" seems to indicate volatility.
Is this folder name correct?

Hello pstein,

/home/cpbackuptmp is a temp folder for backup archives. After the archive was created, it gets moved to the backup folder or backup FTP server. You'll need to check backup destination for how many archives and accounts get backed up. cPanel backups are configured through "Configure Backup" option in WHM.

Ok, the backup server has a different IP.
But is the backup physically located on the same hard disc as the "main" server ?

How much space is available on the backup ftp server ?

Assume the DedServer contract comprises a 120 GB hard disc.

Must be the
used hard disc space on the "main" server
+ used hard disc space on the "backup" server < 120 GB

or does the "backup" server space not count for the 120 GB size ?

Hi,

Each dedicated server gets 2 GB of backup space on a FTP account provided by Lunarpages. Additional FTP backup storage is available for $20.00 for each 10 GB per month plus a one time setup fee of $25.00. The FTP backup space is not counted for the size of hard disc installed in the dedicated server because it is configured on a separated FTP server.

OK assume a *.tar.gz archive is created in /home/cpbackuptmp as you described.

What happens if this archive.tar.gz is say 10 GB but the backup ftp-server can keep only 2 GB?
What happens with the backup archive file? Is it deleted even if the transfer to backup server was not sufficient ?

You are telling about a "backup folder" (as alternative to a backup ftp server)?
Where is this backup folder? On the same hard disc as the src ?

Moreover I wonder wether I can exclude some files and folders out of the amount of backup work. Is there a possibility to adjust the backup parameters ? I did not found such options in WHM.

In reply on your questions:

Q: What happens if this archive.tar.gz is say 10 GB but the backup ftp-server can keep only 2 GB?

A: cPanel fails to upload the backup completely in such case.

Q: What happens with the backup archive file? Is it deleted even if the transfer to backup server was not sufficient ?

A: The temp backup files get deleted in any case when backup script finishes working.

Q: You are telling about a "backup folder" (as alternative to a backup ftp server)? Where is this backup folder? On the same hard disc as the src ?

A: If you have only one hard drive in your server, the backup folder will be on the same drive with the data. If you add the second drive, it can be used to store backups.

Q: Moreover I wonder wether I can exclude some files and folders out of the amount of backup work. Is there a possibility to adjust the backup parameters ? I did not found such options in WHM.

A: Unfortunately, cPanel do not support backup exclusions for files or folder. The only way to get this supported is to use a 3rd party script that will be archiving the needed data and uploading achieves on the FTP server.

I hope this helps.
