Ok...I can see that.

...but in this case it seems a bit more.  I see that FF "default" for Content > Font is Times... so users don't necessarily know this - and see things the way FF shows them.

...unlike Java or Flash, where the user is told that they need to do something to see the web page the way the designer designed it to be seen.

I'm just surprised that Firefox would have this "automatic override" set for everyone who installs it.

Seems it would be better to have it as an option...not an automatic thing.

Browser font selection is not limited to Firefox. Usually people change just the size. Most users don't mess with it until they have significant eyestrain, bad enough to look around for a solution.

The default is seen when there is no font selected in the webpage's code. View your sample page's source or look at code view in Dreamweaver. Did you specify a font?

This is pretty common. If you set your browser to an unusual font and brows around a while you will find sites that Appear to use the unusual font, if only because they haven't specified any.
