Can somebody please help figure out a issue that's been bothering me for few days?
Ever since some incident, DW wouldn't let me connect to remote server.
The error message was that the server is down or not accepting connections.
I think I touched FTP host info or something in remote info area... also I'm a newbie so I don't know what testing server is for..
I put artofhyo.com as my FTP host in remote info area and in host directory I put /public_html/
If there anything else that I need to go to connecto back??
Please help again...
Thanks!

Hi,

Have you tried to connect with an alternative ftp client? You can try artofhyo.com Filezilla which is a free script. You can download it from http://filezilla-project.org/

As you are using dreamweaver, you will want to do the following:

1. open dreamweaver and click on site then edit sites
2. double click your domain that is setup here
3. This will change to a window with 2 tabs, click on advanced
4. click on "remote info" and use the following

Access : FTP
FTP host: artofhyo.com
Host directory: /public_html
Login : CPANEL USERNAME
Password: CPANEL PASSWORD

5 Make sure that only thing checked on this screen is "use passive FTP"

For the testing server area, you generally do not need anything in here.

Using this should allow you to connect.

With Filezilla, to setup your account  you can go to the site manger (File > Site Manger) and then in that new pop up window hit the new site button and then fill in your FTP info, user name and password.

Thanks for replying mitch,
I somehow cannot find the file>site manager in firezilla server window...
only lists connect to server, disconnect and quit..
and under server menu, just active and lock...

Might make sure you are downloading the Filezilla client and not the Filezilla server software, here is the direct link to what you want:

http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client

Lunarpages will ban you from your account for using Dreamweaver to synch a site. This has happened to me many times and it just happened again. They claim it is to defend against attacks on the site but they see using Dreamweaver as an attack since it makes multiple connections. Sometimes it only last a little while but many times it doesn't come back and I have to have tech support unblock me from my own accounts.

If you are doing a synch and it drops the connection and won't let you back in you've been banned. It will also lock you out of any add on domains so that's a good way to check if you're blocked.

The first few times this happened it would give an error message saying the connection was refused but now it just seems to ignore you and not say why.

The server cannot distinguish between connections and what they are used for.  The server simply reads the amount of connections from one IP.

If you are using more then 3 simontanious connections to the server you will run the risk of getting banned.

This is a protection that keeps the server up and running smoothly, however one drawback is that not setting FTP clients correctly or establishing too many connections can ban your IP, but can be easily avoided.  Without this protection the server would be vaulnerable to such connection attacks.

Hope this helps
