I am trying to upload a new site www.northcumberlandll.com in Dreamweaver. However, when I try to do a test on the remote site, I get:

FTP error occurred- cannot make connection to host. Remote host cannot be found.

Here is how the Remote info is set up:
Access: FTP
FTP Host: ftp://tseen.lunarservers.com/
Host Dir: public_html
Login:north86
Passwd:xxxxxxxxx
Use passive ftp is checked.

When I click the test button, I get the error.

What am I missing here?Huh

Thanks,
LG

I am trying to upload a new site www.northcumberlandll.com ...

How long has it been since this site was purchased? It usually takes anywhere from 24 to 72 hours for information about a new site to propogate around the world to all the DNS servers. Can you reliably reach your site (with the Lunarpages welcome page) using that URL in your browser? If not, it may be a matter of waiting a few hours. I don't think it would be worth the bother of trying to point your Dreamweaver FTP service to the temporary URL (as given in your welcome email), or even if it's possible.

If the Dreamweaver file is index.htm or index.php, don't forget to remove LP's default index.html.

Edit: Oops! I see you are trying to upload to tseen.lunarservers.com. In this case (assuming it's a shared Linux server on the Basic plan), the problem may be that you're not giving it the path it needs. Your public_html is actually /home/your_account_name/public_html/. I don't know if that will work with FTP, or if you need to wait for your domain name to propogate.

I purchased the site a week ago Saturday, on 1/6/07. However, LP didn't send me the critical account info until mid week or so. Shouldn't it have propogated by now??? Confused

According to the FTP instructions the FTP Host Address is: ftp://tseen.lunarservers.com/ and they must be uploaded to the public_html folder. It also says that the first page on my account should be named "index.html". I originally had it named "index.htm" but I changed it to "index.html" because LP told me to. Does this really matter here???

When I go into c-panel the site is set up with a "public_html" folder. I will try uploading again, just incase the server was experiencing difficulty earlier.

Please let me know if the .htm or .html makes a difference or not.

Thanks,
LG

drop the ftp and just use tseen.lunarservers.com as the use of ftpshould already be shown on the "how do you connect to your server" field. The htm vs html does not matter unless both exist in which case html will take precedence.

As long as you only have a .htm file and not a second .html file it won't matter. It looks for an index page in a particular order.  I'm not exactly sure what that order is, but there is no problem as long as you only have one index file with an extension that is recognized - htm, html, shtml, php, etc.

When you set up your connection in Dreamweaver

ftp host - ftp.domain.com
your login and password should match your ftp account info

And passive ftp should be checked.

I hope this helps. There are some tutorials for setting up Dreamweaver with LP servers at http://www.lunarpages.com/tutorials/ check the ones for shared hosting, using Dreamweaver.

What ftp program are you using.  I don't have a problem connecting to either address (tseen.lunarservers.com or www.northcumberlandll.com) with windows ftp or filezilla.
(of course I can't log in, but it does connect and I see the welcome message).
Propogation wouldn't be a problem with the tseen.lunarservers.com address.

You may want to try filezilla (free) or other ftp client.

I uploaded the files in CPanel but none of the images uploaded. So now I have boxes with an "x" in them where the images should be. I still get the FTP error in Dreamweaver even after removing the FTP from the web host address.

This is very frustrating.  Crying or Very sad
Should the host address say: tseen.lunarservers.com/ or tseen.lunarpages.com/? My other sites have .lunarpages.com/

I would like to be able to create everything in Dreamweaver.  I have about 7 other sites that I have created in the same program that are set up the same way and work fine. For some reason I cannot get the images folder uploaded in CPanel.

I know this is probably something stupid. Do I have to start over with this site?

Thanks,

Lg

Bouncin for Joy I am pleased to say that I got the site up and running. The culprit was the (/) at the end of tseen.lunarservers.com(/) and at the end of public_html(/).

Once I removed them, I was able to connect to the remote site.  Clapping

Thanks for your help.
