Hi Jwink,

This is actually a fantastic tutorial (graphically based) on how to connect to MySQL with Dreamweaver:

http://twebman.lunarpages.com/mm/dw/remotemysql/

Additionally, if you would like to chmod files in Dreamweaver, you can do so using the ftp log.  Here is my post on how to do this:

http://www.lunarforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=9678

Finally, here is a text-based description on how to set up your remote site definition:

http://www.lunarforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=12311

I hope these are helpful.

Another thought I wanted to add is that, if you don't have Dreamweaver and would like to try it out for free, you can download a 30-day trial of Dreamweaver MX 2004 at http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=dreamweaver

This will let you see why people love it so much before you spend the money to buy it.  Thumbs Up

Making DreamWeaver recognize .tpl, .inc, etc files

Sometimes you try to open a file in DW and it won't let you do it.  You have to do it in notepad or some other application and you get frustrated.  Well there is a way to make DW recognize these file extensions.

Open DW.
In DW Click on Edit > Preferences (Ctrl+U).
Click on File Types/ Editors in the box that opened up.
The top box says "Open in code view" and there are a bunch of file extensions in there. Just add your file extension (.tpl or .inc, etc) at the end and hit OK.
From then on the files you listed will open in your code window in DW.

At least that is how it works on DW MX.

Define what you mean by best?  Where are you living?
The macromedia site is, of course, a good place.  http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/store/index.cfm?store=OLS-US
And eBay might not be bad, just make sure to get a factory sealed deal and not an illegal copy.

I got a good price for DW itself on Amazon. Macromedia charges full price. Razz Other smaller companies can beat Amazon's price, but I'm wary of shopping at those places.

Okay, I just ordered Macromedia Studio MX 2004.

I just want to verify:

Will I be able to create webpages using Dreamweaver on my computer, then upload onto the internet through Lunar Pages?

Thanks,

BRM, DW has it's own FTP program already so you could also upload your files by using it. It has a nifty feature of asking if you want to include all dependant files too. This way, you don't miss one!  Thumbs Up Guess they just thought way ahead for some of us.  Embarassed
