Hello.  I an still the new kid with dreamweaver and have come upon a problem I can't find an answer to.  I expect that the answer is just SO simple that it's staring me in the face and I can't see (story of my life...)

Anyway,  I want to place links on my resource page to other websites. In good ol' frontpage I just typed the address and a hyperlink was created automatically.

Here in Dreamweaver it looks as though I only can link to other pages in the site.  Help!

Here's the site I'm working on:

www.aglandconservancy.org

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well I am new too but what I did was wherever you wanted the link go up to the top and there is a chain link at the top and if you put your cursor over it, it says hyperlink....when it popups our box will appear with text and the address and stuff......in text you will put how you want it to appear. and in the link type "http://www.thewebsite.com".....I havent published my site yet but thats what I did and when I previewed in browser it worked.....Correct me if I am wrong people.....I am totally new too. I have only had it for 2 days now.....sorry if this doesnt work but thats what I did and seemed to work fine....... Confused

Hi kdunnett.
Easy way if youve not got your screen setup with icons displayed.

Type your link freds_place.com highlight it. and right click.

Select make link. and type the url you want into the ....URL window.

Making sure to remove the leading / that might be in that window
( I think this is where your current link is wrong. you left the / in)
So when you click your marin ag land trust link its looking for http://www.aglandconservancy.org/http//www.malt.org
leaving that / in means 'goto this link from the site'  ....

Dear Pete,

Thanks for the response. I think I'm pretty dense here because I tried to amend the link info as you said, highlight and right link then type  URL w/o http://www.  etc., but the link when previewed in the browser is still attempting to refer back to my localhost and my root ag land web file.  I looked at your quote about taking a deep breath and searching for the simple answer, I'm afraid I may hyperventilate!  Any other suggestions, I thank you very much for your help, especially knowing you went to the site to check out my problem.

Thanks.

Hi kdunnett
I think maybe I 'confused' you somewhere.  Embarassed

The window should come up like  this

Delete the / I've highlighted in red and replace it with a FULL url.

So as Confused has said.... http://www.malt.org in that example

The http://www SHOULD tell your page "goto an extrernal HTTP address. dont go to an internal folder"
